Car Hire - how to get it cheap!

Still not booked this deal, now i have to change the dates. Was really waiting on everything else to be paid before i paid the £600 odd to Europcar.

Now ive found a similar quote, £318 for a 5-dr Focus which is pretty much what we would of paid for the Mondeo for the same period.

Hertz website is all over the place, shows Pre-Paid then doesnt.

Alamo looks like Avis website, and Budget is pretty much above the rest of them.


So far the cheapest is through travelsupermarket funny enough, and not just a cheap small car either.

Has anyone noticed that they've changed their terms and conditions: "Claims will be verified within 96 hours of receipt (only during office hours Monday-Friday 09:00 - 17:30).

Does this mean that they can actually take 10 working days plus an extra 5 hours to validate your claim? This will obviously eat away into the 14 days to cancel your booking free of charge. Actually, I think this leaves you with no time at all to cancel if they use the full 96 business hours, but would prefer to be corrected if I'm wrong!

I've just submitted a claim for £243.20 based on the following:

Europcar reservation

Pick-up:
IBIZA AIRPORT - IBZT01 Date / Time : 10-06-2011 / 21h00

Return:
IBIZA AIRPORT - IBZT01 Date / Time : 14-10-2011 / 13h00

Vehicle Category: OPEL MERIVA 1.7 or similar - Compact,4/5-Door,Manual,A/C (CDMR)
Total Price : 189.60 GBP Prepaid reservation

Avis at www.avis.co.uk quoted the following:

Pick-Up Date and Location
Fri, 10 Jun, 2011 at 21:00
Ibiza Airport

Return Date and Location
Tue, 14 Jun, 2011 at 13:00
Ibiza Airport

Vehicle requested: Seat Altea 1.9 or similar - Compact 5 Door Manual Aircon

Total price: 68.00 GBP

Double the difference would be £243.20, meaning Europcar would be paying me £53.60 for hiring their car. I did this before in 2009 and they honoured the claim then. But since they've changed the T&C's to 96 business hours, I'm not sure I'll get away with it this time! Don't know whether to risk it and wait for the validation and if I'm wrong, pay the cancellation fees of £45 and hire the Avis one instead.

Wow! I needn't have worried about them not contacting me in time. They responded saying that my claim was valid and the difference of £243 will be paid 7 days after the rental:

"Thank you for your email below regarding our Double the Difference Offer.
After a review of your claim, I agree that you do have a valid claim, and am happy to refund double the difference totalling £243.20GBP.

As per the Terms & Conditions of the offer, this will be processed after you have rented.

In order for us to issue the refund above, I will need you to contact us after your rental is completed, quoting your Rental Agreement Number, and your (above) Claim Reference Number.

We do genuinely attempt to offer the best value vehicle rental, and as such, I will be passing the details you have provided to our Pricing Department for review.

I would like to thank you for choosing Europcar for your rental.

I have just emailed them a claim with a comparason to Budget so i'll let you know if it gets accepted or not. Its only £34 difference but it all helps!

Just had a call from Europcar to confirm they will honour the offer against my quote from Budget car hire, so you can add that company to the list!

I think im getting a bit confused. I need to book a 6+ seater for the 8th of JUne to the 17th from malaga airport. But no rental company appears to have the same options. Does it matter?

I am a late comer to this thread also.

I need a 6 seater from Malaga airport for a week from 18 October.

I will have a re-read and see if i can understand it second time around!

Anyone know if this would be honoured? Are holidayautos ok to use?
