new dla medicals

You mean, like the CURRENT system, where for DLA you can already use medical evidence provided by those people for your claim, and it can be used as evidence, and is given proper weight as evidence.
Once the changes come in for DLA, ATOS will do the medicals (although they are not actually medicals at all) and ATOS reports will be the primary, overiding source of evidence, and will outrule and specialist evidence you provide.
this to me reads that you can provide the evindence from your own medical examiners but ATOS who have no medical background so may not even understnd what there reading can over rule that evidence an still say no as they can overrule there descisions on your illness0 -

On IB and ESA ATOS usually dont check medical evidence at all... (they only checked in 13 percent of claims....)
You can supply your own medical evidence to the DWP, as its the DWP 'decision maker' (who is medically untrained) who decides. But they HAVE to take the ATOS report as the proof, and the ATOS report is taken as better evidence than any you supply.....
So yes they can overide any specialist in the country, simply by using the result of a quick assessment by atos (which may have even been done by a nurse....)
At present, on DLA, ATOS reports are not given as much weight, but in 2013 - ATOS will be involved for medicals, and that is bound to change, and it will become like IB/ESA - where they can overide even the worlds top specialist with the word of a nurse or occupational therapist, or retired doctor from ATOS.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,

Have ATOS been awarded the contract for the work then? I thought it would go to tender.0 -

It will go to ATOS.
The DWP already own the software used for medical assessments.
ATOS is the company that handles the software and has taken over the role of medical services for the DWP.
They will be appointed the task, no doubt at all - unless the government drops atos completely, which they are not going to do..
edit : to do otherwise would damage the commercial interests of the DWP - as it would be a sign of no confidence in ATOS and the software.... Remember the DWP make money from the resale of that software they own.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

You have no more idea than I (or anyone else) whether ATOS will be involved or not.
If it was all just going to be handed to ATOS, the Govt would be able to do that within months. But they have said they intend to introduce the medical assessments for existing DLA claimants in 3 years.
I think that is so that they can consider the best way to do it.
I doubt they will just go to an existing contractor anyway, given that they will be looking for more cost-effective methods than those used by the former government.
If you are so concerned that it will go that way, contact the minister Maria Miller, or the Office for Disability Issues http://www.odi.gov.uk/index.phpI try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

It is obvious ATOS will get the task, they are the ones who do the medical services for the DWP.
They are waiting till 2013 for equally obvious reasons, ATOS wont be able to handle any more assessments as between now and 2013 they are full up doing the IB to ESA migration.
If it was going to be given to someone other than ATOS, then they could start the assessments before 2013....[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

Waste of an email... The government knows ATOS are a joke already.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

there is only one reason why this is being delayed for 3 years and thats due to the transfer from ib to esa being done over the next 3 years,if both were to happen at the same time the system would collapse within weeks.
Take it from me atos will be involved.0 -
