The govt announced that from 2013 all dla claimants inc existing ones would have to undergo a medical.
mp kate hoey has tabled an early day motion (EDM)questioning the wisdom and fairness of this,so far 48 mps have signed the edm,inc some members of the coalition parties.
Now would be a good time to contact your mp to see if they have or intend to sign this edm.
here is the edm in full

i don't understand why people are so against having a medical. It will happen, too many people are getting DLA for minor issues for it to be able to carry on in it's present incarnation.0 -

Some of us already get pulled about enough by medical professionals.
Define "minor". To claim DLA, you must need at least one hour of personal care, be unable to prepare a cooked meal, (cooking ability is ignored) walk outside due to physical disability or need help and supervision outside.Sealed pot challenge #232. Most of these things are decided on what you say yourself. I believe many people exaggerate simply to fit the guidelines. And sites like this provide every scrap of information you need to attempt to pull the wool over the decision makers eyes. I also think people should have to complete the forms without help from outside agencies.0 -
The thing of being able to cook a meal is one of the reasons why I don't claim any disability benefits....I can cook a meal (I have no choice, 3 children would not be fed otherwise!), I just have to do most of it sitting down and get eldest to move the saucepans/heavy frying pans.
So, as far as I can see, I don't qualify. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Why? it's not as if (in my experience) they actually sit there and fill the forms in. They know how to do the forms and what information you need to put for each question. (ie, it's not just a simple yes or no, it's "I can but it hurts because...")Most of these things are decided on what you say yourself. I believe many people exaggerate simply to fit the guidelines.
And many people get turned down, despite the fact that it's bleeding obvious that they need help.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

And you can't do this yourself? You with your university education.0 -

University education and filling in DLA forms are completely different things.
Or are you seriously telling me that being able to take part a computer and put it back together again, is the same as filling in the minefield that is the DLA form?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I was assuming that you needed a fairly decent basic education to even get a place at University.
The DLA forms, like the AA forms appear fairly straightforward to me.
Lots of repetition agreed but nothing very tricky.0
