Thy're not that straight forward. Even then, the DM doesn't read what people actually write on the forms and make it up as they go along.

Of course they read them. You're being silly now.

Funny how others have said the same.

    Explain the following then:
I hav problems walking up and down stairs due to sight loss. I got told that I don't and that "because I can walk, I should be fine walking up and down stairs".

And then ther's the one where they said I need with medication and later on said I didn't.

I was assuming that you needed a fairly decent basic education to even get a place at University.

The DLA forms, like the AA forms appear fairly straightforward to me.

Lots of repetition agreed but nothing very tricky.

Ive always filled mine & my son's DLA forms myself.

They usually write to my GP/Pyschiatrist/Ocupation Therapist to confirm what ive stated is true.

When they sent you a statement of reasons after turning down your application it does make you wonder whether filling the forms in yourself is a good idea though tbh.

They seem to disregard alot of the facts ie. you have selfharmed or taken overdoses but they don't think you are at risk of harm to yourself.

    It's rediculous.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

i used to volunteer for D I A L, and i filled in D L A forms. for every genuine claimant i filled in another 4, who got D L A that in my opinion they were not entitled to. I was told that it wasn't my job to judge but to fill in the information they gave me.

    But..........
we all know how unfair the E S A medicals are. theres every possibility that the genuine claimants will fall foul and those who know how to work the system will succeed as always

Which is why the claimant should complete the forms without outside help. On the basis of your experience DLA numbers need to be cut by more than the mooted 20%

Or are you seriously telling me that being able to take part a computer and put it back together again,

And are you seriously telling me that with your almost nonexistent vision you are able to remove the tiny component parts of a computer and put it back together again?
  • maybe they should scrap the DLA forms as i dont think they take in anything you have said any way...maybe a simple application an then a medical an they write to your doctor or any one else that helps its them that will give the correct info making it a much eaiser process an then maybe morecorrect decissions will be made instead of having to drag genuine claiments through months of hell

I think this may well be the way things will go in the future as it sounds like everyone will be having a medical anyway.

As I would expect. However on the other side of the coin I manage a care home and regularly have to fill in AA forms for residents. These residents usually are usually very heavily dependant with multiple-diagnosis.

It's usually the case of receiving a partially completed form from relatives that would not stand a chance of being accepted and doesn't anywhere near reflect the actual care needs of the resident.

I usually end up completing the form accurately and give supporting evidence with care plans, medical reports etc. The main problem is vastly under estimating care needs because they've developed over time and giving inadequate descriptions of how life is affected ignoring that resident is already receiving a vast amount of help with ADL's.

Where I appreciate that to a degree the application forms can be manipulated by the dis-honest, the genuine can fall at the first hurdle because of inexperience of knowing what the DM's need to know.
