Too right, we've had to buy uniform for our children at the most obnoxious shop and over priced shop on the planet - they have an unfair monopoly.

I've just costed out #2 sons minimum uniform costs, these are at the cost for the smallest sizes available, and he isn't a small chap, so the bigger sizes are going to be more expensive - only available from the store which is 'never knowingly undersold' - so there is no way to get it cheaper - £150! And that's not including the ruc sac, the stationery needs, the shoes (we're going with Doc Martens from Ebay) or the 'optional' waterproof PE jacket.. There is no 'buy the badge and sew it on yourself' option, and this is the first year the uniform has been enforced, so no s/h market. The school takes the opinion that 'you chose the school, you stick by our rules!' - but the school themselves hadn't made a decision regarding uniform when we signed up last year.....
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

The primary schools seem okay - you can go to Tesco (which I do!) but the elder two in secondary school drive me potty.

DD3 has to have a logoed PE kit - T'shirt, Jumper and Trousers or its detention without the correct pe kit, but the actual uniform though they are more relaxed with, as long as they have the school logoed jumper and tie it doesn't matter if they have skirt/trousers. But at £16 per school jumper....
    Its £13 PE shirt, £16 PE Jumper, £18 PE trousers, £4.50 tie, £16 School Jumper - £67.50 before shirts/skirts/shoes.

Last years PE kit fits her, but her school jumper is lost (told her to just go and take one from the lost property box - it wont have a name in, so no-one will know....)

Then there is the stationary etc. Go to Wilkinsons for that.

Last September it was a nightmare - DD2 started secondary, DD3 started primary and DD1 has outgrown everything!! I needed everything new and spent far too much money.

Do it Charlotte, in the school where I work they put out notice after notice asking kids to come and collect lost property and if it is still there it gets dumped at the end of term (otherwise we would need to take a classroom to keep it all in). She certainly could get one without any fuss, just wander up and say oh I lost my jumper weeks ago but couldn't be bothered to come for it and now Mum is moaning....
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j

    Hi,

I bought iron on labels from my local school uniform outfitter (buxton & bonnet) they were £3+ and they have been OK, survived the school year being washed after each wear. But some are scrunched up now and on all the name has faded. But I write in marker on the washing label as well. It doesn't stop the clothes going missing. I still have to go into school and rummage round the lost property box or in the cloakrooms looking for DS's clothes and he is only 5! Definately agree with the other posters, I assumed naively that DS1 would pass uniform to DS2 (only 1 year between them). But there is only 1 pair of trousers that I can reuse and that's only because I just bought them last week, lol!

Lost property at the end of term at my sons' first school goes to a local charity shop. There's been a couple of times when I've volunteered to do that run for them.

personally I prefer sew on as it is a pain after a few washes when the iron ons come off up screw up with the dryer heat - I also use 2 kids one order...

and yes they still come home with wrong clothes

Colin2511, thank you so much, I ordered two days ago and received them today, they are fantastic and of really good quality.
