I'm taking a day off work tomorrow to blitz the flat. I've been working 7 days a week since the beginning of June and the flat's beginning to look like I'm expecting a visit from Kim and Aggie! Everything will need scrubbing from top to bottom, the windows need cleaning, the furniture needs polishing, the cupboard shelves need wiping etc. It's going to be a long day. I'll post my schedule later tonight or tomorrow morning so that you can all kick me up the bum if I'm off target.......

Afternoon ladies :) I've fed the cats again (4 times a day that happens here - then it's wash up plates each time). I've only just woken after my 2nd sleep, so am still in my pj's. At least I awoke to a lovely clean kitchen; sweet smell of cake around the house and a tidy desk.

I put the washing outside (on the clothes airer), and should NOT have done so. It was heavy and if it rains I won't be able to bring it back in. Not enough washing for another load yet and nothing needs ironing (as ever).

NOT looking forward to sorting out those grapes, and still haven't found out how to make wine (have some equipment, but not know-how).

Floors still need doing, but tbh I'm scared of trying too hard again today - maybe I'll just mop kitchen floor (I felt you all get cross with me then!)

Tricky Vicky - join in - it's amazing how supportive people on here are, and you end up having a lovely home in 15 minute spurts.

Will everyone please stop rushing about - you're making me feel giddy - it's NOT a race!

I'll come back later to check on your progress though.....
    Tara for now

    Well done Jo

The hoovering finally done (all except the living room and hallway as I don't want to wake DH up with the hoover) I'll do those this evening before Anthea. clothes on the airer folded waiting to go upstairs and one more load of jeans in the TD.

DD's bedroom is tidy again and her bed made. I have to bring down the dirty laundry out of our room and clear the landing as I made a bit of a mess when I sorted out the christmas cupboard. Will try and fit that in tonight but if not I'll do it tomorrow after I have taken the parents shopping.

OK, so now I'm jealous that you are so organised, but I have just saved £130 by renewing my car insurance through confused.com. Yippee, I'm happy:j

Don't know about the others but I am soooo NOT organised. Although when you look at the thread it would seem that everyone lives in Stepford :)

I think (and this is from a newbie AND a chap) the key is to start slow, take it in manageable chunks and set yourself a realistic set of targets for the day (or evening).

    My story:

I, like you, work full-time, so my housework time is limited. I started with Hotspots, those bits of the house that, no sooner do you clear them are they messy again. in my case, the kitchen table and sofa 2. Having cleared these one evening, I kept on top of them for the next couple of days. This then inspired me to do a little bit more, then a bit more etc etc. Now on returning home, I run around like the proverbial blue backsided airborne insect for an hour or so and the result now is that our ground floor has never looked so consistently..... err..... un-bombsite-like (Its not spotless, but its heaps better than it was.

This has now given me the confidence to continue and to do little bits more. Critical mass will be reached at some point and I will explode, but in the meantime, I'm feeling rather proud of myself

Give it a go Tricky Vicky - I'm sure you'll surprise yourself
:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood
  • Thanks all for the encouragement - I have a visitor coming this evening, so I will make an effort with the living room and the kitchen. I'll have to go like a whirling dervish to make an impression before they arrive, but maybe I will set the timer and see how much I can get done in a given time. Nothing like a bit of pressure to motivate a person!

Pffft, Vicky, you don't NEED us - you've got visitors to encourage you to tidy and clean up. I'm jealous! And I feel SO not needed now too.

Go on, go to yer rotten friend for kicks up the @rse - WE won't care

Don't just SIT there woman, get cracking on that bathroom, else said friend will think you're disgusting! :naughty:

All said tongue in cheek...:rotfl: just in case you thought I meant it!

  • Well, here is my progress......
    • Clean bathroom
    • [STRIKE]Do washing up[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Clean kitchen[/STRIKE]
    • Hoover and dust
    • [strike]Change bed sheets [/strike]
    • Do laundry- clothes, sheets and towels
    • sort out paperwork
    • [strike]Put all clean clothes away[/strike]
    • Sort out cupboards (at the "quick close it before it all falls out" stage!!:rotfl: )
    • Sort out disaster shelves- piled up with loads of cr*p!!
Tomorrow I will hoover, dust and clean the bathroom before my guest arrives in the evening.

Going to have no time to sort out paperwork or the disaster cupboards!! They'll have to wait until next week!!! :D

  • Pretty satisfying day today!! Got my bedroom largely decluttered and tidied, well the visible bits anyway!! Still need to turf out a couple of cupboards, and some underbed storage, but that can wait. All surfaces were wiped down/polished as appropriate and I'm sure it's going to be a lot more pleasant to sleep in there tonight!

Did the shopping, and managed to forget the one item I was supposed to buy for tonight's dinner! Oh well, chilli powder worked almost as well as fresh chilli.

Finally, did a little bit of gardening.

Probably won't get any flying done tomorrow, DGS day, but who knows.
