Haven't done much today. I vacuumed downstairs, cleaned the kitchen floor (on hands and knees) and started to sort a bit of paperwork. Must try harder :rolleyes:0

Didn't manage to make the cookies
just seemed to run out of steam, maybe tomorrow! Do have some clean floors though and laundry fairly up to date. Will have to do a few more 5 min rescues before the bedroom looks decent

Snowy, this describes me too! Despite my best intentions and really trying I seem to have achieved very little:o Can I link wings with you at the back please, then i won't feel so daunted?:D
I took absolutely hours scrubbing my oven and hob. To be fair to myself, both are now gleaming, there's not a spot on them anywhere, even the sainted Anthea perfect Turner would not be able to fault them!!!:rotfl: They're so clean you could EAT your dinner off them!! You could even perform surgery on them (if they were big enough!:rotfl: )!! But the rest of the kitchen's a mess, and as for the rest of the house:o
Oh well, tomorrows another day!!
PS Well done on your financial flying!! Sounds like a good result.You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
TNG wrote:Sorry to take this slightly OT, but...... is this one of the things Martin recommends? Sell your shares and clear a bit of debt with it?

sorry

Sorry everyone...this is way off topic, but I couldn't ignore TNG's question...
Hi Flyboy/Orville/TNG!
My motivation for hanging onto the shares was to have a stash of "emergency money" available. However my Halifax shares haven't really grown in value over the past few years...maybe by a couple of hundred, but that's about all. And of course there is no guarantee that the value of shares will go up! Compare that with my four figure credit card balance which has been hanging around for a few years now (I know, dreadful!) - I've been chipping away at it, but not making any significant progress. One thing is for sure though I have been accumulating a lot of interest on my credit card balance. Even though the sum I owe has gone down over the past few years, they still bung on xx amount of interest monthly and add that to the balance I owe. The accumulated interest figure is a lot bigger than the amount my shares have increased in value by. So it only makes sense to sell the shares and use that money to pay off some credit card debt so that overall I pay back less money - in effect I am making the shares work for me by liquidating them.
As for "emergency funds" - if the scenario arises where I need to get some money super fast then I can still call on the credit card. It would sicken me and it really would have to be a dire emergency. However by getting rid of my credit card debt I can put the amount I would have paid each month to the card into a savings account instead. That is much healthier don't you think? It's the same principle that Martin would apply - interest on debt always outweighs interest on credit. Some would call this a "lightbulb moment" but I am most definitely on a dimmer switch when it comes to being financial savvy. Hope you can see what I am on about!!0 -

Hi Churchmouse...I don't feel so bad now! Yes, let's definitely hook up wings at the back. Less is very often more, don't you think? Your oven and hob sound fabulous now - just a wee bit of maintenance as you go along and you'll never have to make so much effort with them again. Tomorrow is indeed another day!

oh oh oh . . . I'm hoping to be back online at home sometime tomorrow - so I'll be able to join in again.
Just a quick update . . we are in our new home - have LOTS of things to do - so I will be working through those as well as starting a new cleaning plan.
I have drawn up a spreadsheet on the computer with all the rooms and the things that need doing in them. Probably need to add an outdoors one, too.
This week so far:
* Have gone through a box of stuff that came out of my duchess in my bedroom;
* Have gone through and cleaned lightshades in the whole house - obviously the MALES that put them up didn't clean them afterwards;
* Am trying to keep up with laundry for the six of us just using one clotheshorse because I don't have an outside clothesline yet, and probably won't for a couple of months.
I'm sure there is more, but I'm at work and trying to keep this really quick!If there is to be any peace, it will come through being, not having - Henry MillerM.A.C.A.W Member . . Wannabe Flybaby0 -

Morning all, dreary day outside, perfect for flying inside instead
I didn't manage to do the hoovering yesterday so will get that done first thing this morning. Then it's time to tackle the dining room which needs a major declutter. Last night I went through all the stuff I have for christmas instead. I can't do my bedroom today or tomorrow so I may tackle a bit of it after DD has gone to bed tonight as it's a real tip in there. I need to get one load of washing done and may think about cleaning the oven if there's enough time.
