what if you can't afford your pets?

I agree, however what if it isn't the usual rubbish about not having enough money yet enjoying luxuries but instead is the real thing that they cannot afford to treat their much loved pet? When you have raided the pot and there is nothing left what then?
First, I would ask someone else to cast an eye on my income and outgoings - sometimes people think they've pared their outgoings to the bone but overlooked say gym memberships or sky tv. I personally would get rid of anything non essential (haircuts etc) and funnel the savings into my pet. I'd be on the debtfreewannabe board and the oldstyle boards.
If I am genuinely already on 8p noodles, no mobile etc then I would be on the upyourincome part of the job looking at cashback sites, selling stuff on ebay etc. If this was not enough I'd be looking for part time work like pub work or waitressing.
If all my time and my money was already tied up then I'd look for a loan or whack it on the credit card. I'd hate to do this though as the £400 might turn into £800 before I can pay it back.
I'd not get rid of my pet unless someone could persuade me it was in his best interest.0 -
When my cat broke his leg it cost me £3000+ to get him treated. I'm afraid I put it on a credit card and it took me over a year to pay it off!0

Unless you are using a computer at the library, it would appear you have one of those?

Your being a little silly really, Yes there are lots of what ifs. I Have insurance and a certain amount of savings just for the animals. If anything else should happen I would deal with the individual situation as it arrived.
What if little green men came down and visited me. Well I'd deal with that as well
Its not what if's it is an actual situation that I am trying to get advice on. This condition is not covered by insurance and as I have explained there is barely enough money for the children (which imo should always come before any pets)0 -

You are right your children come before your pets. What dog do you have? If you find yourself in the situation where you have to part with your pet your best bet would be to try specific breed rescues.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

Not me (thankfully) and no they don't have a computer (otherwise I am sure they could get their own advice)
They are currently on dmp with ccs (I think that is their name) and they are pretty desperate, I have tried to help them a bot with advice from this site but I think it is time to accept that their pets have to be re-homed. They are a really nice family and don't deserve what has happened to them (as are most of the other families this has happened to in the recession). I put this to them this afternoon and the wife just broke down as she adores her dog but they simply cannot afford the treatment he needs.0 -
Bubby I think you will get a lot more advice from www.petforums.co.ukWife and mother :jGrocery budget

It is a specific breed and I contacted the breed rescue today who could home him quite quickly as they have a waiting list of people who he would "probably" suit.
Sorry I didn't make it very clear I should have posted the whole situation in the first post:o0 -

That's ok
It's wonderful if he can be rehomed quickly and would be all round the best for everyone as it's not fair on the dog to be kept with your friends if they can't afford treatment
Can I ask what breed he is?Wife and mother :jGrocery budget
