what if you can't afford your pets?

Options
As the title suggests, what if you couldn't afford your pets?

I don't mean food but if they needed medical treatment (non emergency) and you had no money to pay for it what would you do?

PDSA will help if you meet their eligibility criteria.
Otherwise I think I would sell my soul to help my dog...

Same here! As I did with Orbit last year.

Sold your soul? I am intrigued....

What if there is no room for any other cutbacks and you cannot live on bread and water as you have children?

We're not talking finding a few quid either more like £300-£400

I would move heaven and earth to help mine if they were ill. Some people would just give them away or have them put down without a second thought though.

I agree, however what if it isn't the usual rubbish about not having enough money yet enjoying luxuries but instead is the real thing that they cannot afford to treat their much loved pet? When you have raided the pot and there is nothing left what then?

I was in this position (dog had cancer, i lost my job, no pet insurance) and i maxed out my credit card, sold off everything i could on ebay and arranged a payment plan through the vets. Still paying off credit card now, 4 years on, but i'd do it again in a second if i had too.

I was unemployed & living on JSA so I ran up a bill at the vets for Orbit's treatment of nearly £350 before I discovered the PDSA had a branch in Belfast.
He passed away last Sept aged 14ish.

I would do everything to get the money. Selling tv/laptop/phones, begging/borrowing etc.

I'm thankful that I have insurance but if there was nothing I could do I would have to surrender my pet to a rescue.

And if there are no credit cards as you can't get credit and the vets WON'T do a payment plan and you have nothing to ebay (unless you want to leave the children with no clothes or toys)

This family are barely putting food on the table, everything is value and they only have 1 tv. They don't live to an extreme but the husband lost his job and the money has run out.

Your being a little silly and childish really it sounds like a conversation with a 4 yr old, Yes there are lots of what ifs. I Have insurance and a certain amount of savings just for the animals. If anything else should happen I would deal with the individual situation as it arrived.

What if little green men came down and visited me. Well I'd deal with that as well
