OK, let's just deal with facts:

    1. the deal -and the tie-in period - end on 31st July
    2. you will be hit with significant price rises if you do nothing
    3. you must make sure that the switch date is AFTER 31st July to avoid penalties (ie 1st August)
    4. penalties are £25 for each fuel supplied ie £50 for dual fuel deals

I'm off to switch suppliers :)

    You can switch now...

I dont beleive there is a withdrawal penalty with the existing online tariff v5.

Energy Online v5 was re-launched by EDF Energy on the 22nd July 2009.
Energy Online v5 is available for a very short period and may be withdrawn from the market at any time.
With Energy Online v5 customers will receive a discount of a minimum of 2% off the standard EDF Energy tariffs until 31st July 2010.
Energy Online v5 is available in 10 distribution areas across the UK to customers happy to pay by monthly direct debit and signup online. Energy Online v5 is not available as an Economy 7 tariff.
Customers can leave Energy Online v5 at any time with no early termination fees applying.

I've already left then high and dry after last weeks letter

I'm paying "On line saver version 5" with Economy 7 - is that what we are talking about?

    [0.175 per day standing charge.
    0.09710 day rate per unit.
    0.05230 nite rate per unit.]

For some reason I used to be on V6 which had no standing charge BUT a high rate per unit for the first unit or two per day??!!

I am sure I have had no such letter let alone misunderstood it.

signup online. Energy Online v5 is not available as an Economy 7 tariff.

Very strange; talk about confusion marketing: the change to my deal (by the look of it a very small increase for my level of consumption) seems to have occurred in January.

I have swapped to the online v6 (over the phone). A lot cheaper than the option offered in the letter.

I did say earlier in the thread that I quite like Kim's acerbic style, and much of the time his posts make sense!;)

I actually thought Kim might be amused by having his faux pas pointed out! - he has shown a wry sense of humour in some of posts - albeit not everone has seen the funny side!

I'm aware of the acerbic remark, also some of his (?) humour but some has simply not been either funny or accurate.

Clearly he doesn't seem to have shown any amusement to your pointing it out so far. It also seems clear that you would have to take some silly issue with me if I told you that black was black & white was white. :p

In my view, the letter isn't as clear as it could be - it says they will be aligning their prices with their competitively priced Standard Tariff without mentioning the word "price rise" "increase" or otherwise. It includes new prices on the reverse, when anyone would expect to also see their existing prices as well to know what the difference was.

They are also useless, I moved to them in August last year, it took them until November and constant emails and phone calls to get my gas to join my electricity. Despite constant queries I still cannot access my gas account details.

I had my letter yesterday and I call and swapped over to Online V6 too. I was on Online V5 and there was no cancelleation fee for leaving early! There is with V6 though, 25.00 for each utility.

  • The £50 termination fees will not appy if you switch to another supplier if you are on the V5. They also do no apply if you revert to the standard tariff.

You're only charged if you take the V6 from 1st Aug, then decide to switch:money:
