So how is that misleading? .

I was taking issue with Kim over this statement - not the letter as such:
IT SCREAMS IN BOLD IN THE VERY SECOND SENTENCE OF THE LETTER that the typical user will be paying an extra £446.

The reading comprehension of many people is shocking.

How can any form of 'reading comprehension' conclude that using a historical saving of £446 over a period of three and a half years can lead to to Kim's conclusion that the typical user will be paying an extra £446?

I actually thought it quite amusing that Kim in his inimitable style was lambasting people for their lack of 'reading comprehension' when he had very clearly made a mistake himself;) and no amount of 'damage limitation' on his part can alter that fact.

Sorry can someone explain it to me in laymans terms - I am a very sleep deprived new mum and not much is sinking in these days.

I am on the online v5 product but they are offering to swop me onto the 'energy saver' ptoduct saving 2% on standard prices. Is that a good switch or do I need to shop round all suppliers again (not been with edf long so not sure if I'm tied in). Thanks for any help.

Hi Tye Bo, I'm on EDF online V5 and after seeing the price increase I think I'll switch. I phoned EDF yesterday and they said I am not tied in so your probably free to switch, but ring and check to make sure (its a freephone number anyway)

By the way the person I spoke to at EDF agreed with me that there are much cheaper deals out there for me, and made no attempts to keep my custom. It looks like I'm switching back to scottish power who I was with 2 years ago.....what a pain!

What do you expect them to say? What would you do if you are in the shoes of their Marketing team relying on the job to pay for your living? Other companies would write the letter in the same way to inform customer of price changes.

What next? Utility companies to produce 5 pages of 'Key Facts' similar to mortgage applications?

How about just telling the truth - you currently pay "x" and will from changeover pay "Z". Some customers who are led to believe they are being switched to a competively priced deal are probably unlikely to check the figures until the bill arrives. Most would however probably do so if they thought or were clearly told that there was a 15 or 16% price increase about to hit them.

"Drawing in discounts" and past savings in order to disguise the coming "price increase" is quite obviously intended to mislead the customer into thinking that EDF are doing them great favours

So between the three of us, we have different 'reading comprehension' and we can't all be correct!

As Kim has called me an idiot & you disagree with many of my views this may be of little comfort to you but if we make that four of us I reckon the other two must have been drinking or something, as your interpretation is quite clearly the correct one :)

I'm paying "On line saver version 5" with Economy 7 - is that what we are talking about?

[0.175 per day standing charge.
0.09710 day rate per unit.
0.5.230 nite rate per unit.]

For some reason I used to be on V6 which had no standing charge BUT a high rate per unit for the first unit or two per day??!!

I am sure I have had no such letter let alone misunderstood it.

I did say earlier in the thread that I quite like Kim's acerbic style, and much of the time his posts make sense!;)

I actually thought Kim might be amused by having his faux pas pointed out! - he has shown a wry sense of humour in some of posts - albeit not everone has seen the funny side!
• I am on the Online S@ver version 5 tarriff is this the tariff with the price increase?
