Humour - Don't pick on a bus!
My brother in law is a bus driver and I had the pleasure of his company last night at a family barbie. Listening to him you would honestly think bus drivers had the worst job in the world, transporting the most heinous type of unwashed cattle to slaughter :rotfl:That said, there were some interesting gems in the conversation which may be worth sharing - but before doing so meet the main character "Bob, the BBFH (B*&T*RD BUSDRIVER FROM HELL"
BEAT THE BUS
A game played by drivers of cars where they - pull out in front of, cut in in front of, and try to pass - moving buses in dangerous circumstances.
Bob says "Beat the bus is fun. Faced with slamming on the brakes and throwing all the passengers out of their seats, or using the offending car and passengers as a soft cushion, hitting the car wins every time. I don't even brake. The Fire Brigade carry big can openers and can usually cut them out alive"
GETTING HIT BY A BUS
Some erroneous or deliberate act of stupidity on the part of a car driver ends up in them get hit by a bus. Car driver is fuming and raging, car is so badly damaged it can't be move, bus has minor scratches.
Bob says "Most of them try and blame the bus, but thanks to the all round cameras fitted on our fleet it never stands up. This makes it funny to hit a car that is in the wrong. For me I get a break, a cup of coffee and asked to fill in a simple form. For the car driver they have months of inconvenience ahead and, at the very least, a bad day - plus their insurance usually has to pay for all the passengers that decide to claim for whiplash, meaning their premiums sky rocket for years. On top of this the CCTV had my last road-rager playing 'beat the bus' prosecuted for dangerous and inconsiderate driving - a bonus"
PARKING IN (OR ON) A BUS STOP/LAY-BY
Small car becomes a 'bus' and thinks a bus stop or layby is OK to park in.
Bob says "This random act of rudeness usually has me deliberately 'clip' or hit the car with the rear of the bus and if I can get a private hire taxi that is a bonus. Some insurance policies won't pay out if a car is parked in a designated bus stop and gets hit by a bus"
OVERTAKING A BUS PULLING AWAY FROM A BUS STOP
Bus signals and pulls away from bus stop, cars continue to overtake it.
Bob says "It's a variant of 'beat the bus' that I like to call 'head on or nothing'. Despite the Highway Code containing clear advice (223: Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road.) people continue to play this dangerous game. I've yet to have one die doing it, but I'm sure it's going to happen real soon"
MY WONDERFUL CAR AND ITS FEATURES
My new Audi has traction control and is great in the snow.
Bob says "My 16 tonne Volvo bus has no such luxury, so when you stop safely in the snow, lookout for me sliding down the hill on my side with my passengers screaming and take my professional advice: GET OUT AND RUN FOR YOUR LIFE"
Seriously, he did make me laugh with his tales. In his 15 years as a bus driver he has rattled up over 70 accidents. When asked 'How do you keep your job?' he answered 'None of them have been considered to be my fault'.
The mind boggles....... :rotfl:

That's why I never ever stop for buses, or let them pull out anymore.
Trucks and lorries every time, but never a bus.0 -

I must confess as a younger person, I rather liked playing 'hit the brakes' when I had a National Express Coach sitting up my backside in the outside lane of a motorway - but I've grown up since.0

Thats just downright dangerous and silly.
All I'm talking about is excercising my right of way and not assisting them0 -

There are good and bad in drivers of all vehicles.
Taking an attitude onto the roads only causes more attitude from drivers around you.
Generally im ok with bus drivers, but i've had cross words with some of the immigrant (non English speaking) bus drivers who seem to think it's ok to bully women drivers in small cars.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well I always let buses out if they signal, and yes even when I a taxi driver, there are so many inconsiderate drivers out there that a little courtesy never hurts. Still that's meExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
He's just emailed me a couple of pics that I thought I would share:
Ford Focus plays 'beat the bus' (pulls out in front of) and loses. Arrested and later charged with careless driving - ends up banned for 6 months
Volvo overtakes bus trying to pass a bike, then tries to turn into driveway in front of bus
This is - apparently - a female moped rider*(?)* wedged under a bus - the fire brigade are trying to lift it off of her
In the interest of balance..... to drive to such standards bus drivers go through rigorous training....0 -
What people don't seem to realise is that it's quite difficult to stop a bus if you cut in front of them, they're quite big and heavy!
Also, if they slam on the brakes then a lot of the passengers would fly out of their seats, old ladies break easily, babies and buggies fall over and ditto re breakages and so on and so forth. It's often far safer to hit the car and risk injuring one person (the idiot who cut in front of you) than it is to try to avoid said idiot by injuring your passengers0 -
