So long as they book the truck driver 5 inches from his rear at the same time, who thinks a 40mph limit means 50, and thinks everyone should share his view.

Whilst i take the view that tailgating should be treated more harshly than speeding (if done "safely"), it may well be that the HGV driver is driving at the sppeed limit, whilst the driver in front is driving at what his speedo says is the speed limit; i.e about 5-10% below the limit.

Given the "speed up / slow down" attitude, I'd suspect other habits creep in like not pulling across to allow overtaking.

Personally if someone tailgates me and I can let them past, I do so. I'd rather have an idiot in front of me (thinking he/she has "won") than behind me and liable to put his engine block through my back seats.

5% of 40mph is 2mph, he can get stuffed if he's upset by that.

A little knowledge is dangerous eh precumptious !!!!?

If Mr HGV/Bus decides to sit 5" from MY rear when I am doing speed limit then I WILL slow down (not brake) until he falls back. He should always ensure that there is adequate room to brake I believe by the Highway code and he is not doing that is he ?

This bus driver sounds a bit of a tool.So many accidents and still has his job, is he the bosses son/husband?

I have a certain amount of sympathy for bus drivers as they are effectively reducing traffic congestion but get little help from joe public when it comes to setting off from bus stops etc but doing things like "accidentally on purpose" clipping someones car because they parked in a bus stop is taking the law into your own hands. For all he knows they could be disabled/have kids onboard/broken down.

What people have to realise is that the training that we go through to become a "professional driver" is rigorous. Not only do we need to do the usual theory tests and practical test as set by the DSA, we also need to complete the 'CPC' - the certificate of professional competence. To gain passes in all of these test areas, you must show an excellent knowledge of just general "defensive" driving. Defensive driving means, giving way when needed to but also "holding your lines" so that other road users can see you are a big vehicle and need that extra room. Obviously, tailgating, speeding and other such stupid behaviour is agressive driving, which would ultimitely result in a failed driving test. If you already have your PCV license and are required to do a company driving test for Stagecoach (because of complaints), you can get the sack. Its as simple as that, Stagecoach do not take poor driving. Always high standards! And, "If in doubt, dont pull out!" is a regular rule that gets repeated during training.

So my advice would be to take the 5 digit number from the rear of the vehicle (which is the unique fleet number) or the reg plate of the vehicle, along with the date and time of offence. Then give the local depot a ring and they will give you the complaints address. Alternatively, the complaints address is printed on the bus next to the front door. Believe me, they do take each complaint seriously. When a complaint is logged against a driver, they send a company official in plain clothing (usually from another area so the driver wont recognise the company official) and the official will be looking for evidence of poor driving. Should the official see poor driving whilst undercover, they will certainly take action, which could result in the bus driver being relived of duty right there on the spot, meaning that the official will need to finish the bus service before taking the offending driver back to his depot for a stripping down, and this usually ends in a P45 being issued.

All I can say is that there are some really good, safe and professional PCV and HGV drivers out there. Dont let the minority spoil it for the majority!

If im behind him and can see that number then that means he's on camera, and if he's on camera, he's about to be on Youtube :D

Maybe it's me, but how does that work?
Most people who drive badly put themselves on youtube, so I can't see the threat if you put them on there as well.
