I strongly disagree, it's much better for us to have Turkey lean towards the west rather than the east for stability in the region.
Plus Turkey is a secular country anyway.
Turkey is pivotal in geographical terms. To the security of Western Europe.
Iraq ~ southeast
Syria ~ south
Greece and Bulgaria ~ northwest
Armenia, Georgia, and Iran ~ eastern0 -

The Turks are muslims and can never lean towards the West because they are not part of the West and never can be. And Turkey might officially be secular, but there are still strong and growing militant elements there. Turkey in the EU would result in millions more people heading for the UK to sponge on our benefits system and NHS - no thanks.0 -

So what 'values' do you believe in, other than lining your own pocket I presume? And who is 'they'?0 -

True, but then we have NATO to look after security. The EU has nothing to do with it.0 -

Correct.
The country has always been split between the west and east (literally in the case of Istanbul), whether the majority are muslims or not is irrelevant because that's not the law of the country.
Turkey is officially a European country.0
