Stopping smoking - yes again!

My life seems to be a serious of self repeating circles. I quit using Allen Carrs book for a number of months, went back to see the family and whilst I was on the motorway I got the notion to try one to see how horrible it would taste. I didn't even 'want' one. I bought some at the services, smoked half, almost passed out and puked at the same time.
Within a few weeks I was back on 20 a day. WHAT A MORON. And yeah, if anyone thinks this sounds like a familiar GP posting, it is. I keep doing it.
Anyhoo, read the book AGAIN, and kept reminding myself that this time, it has to be for good. It's been three weeks since I smoked the last one and I have no urge to try another ever again. I JUST HAVE TO KEEP REMINDING MYSELF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I TRY 'JUST ONE'! (which is pretty much the entire point of the Allen Carr books).
Good luck with everyone else on the thread, whichever method you are using. You can do it, you'll save your health and bags of money too.0 -
Good luck everyone, & even if you foul up, just try again. I can't remember how many times I've given up, only to start again because I thought 'just one, that's no problem, I can deal with it!'
I was 20/day & now haven't had one since 22nd August 2004. I have saved the equivalent to getting over £3,500 p.a. pay rise (just add back on the tax & NI you have paid on the money you spend on fags!). I overpaid the mortgage by the amount I saved & have just reduced our remaining term by 3 years!
I still wake up in the morning sometimes having dreamed I've had one & blown it all over again! Sad or what!0 -
Mentioned this before but I noticed it again when I restarted the fags - it's not just the cost of the cigs themselves that cost so much. I found I would take a tenner out of the bank, spend £5.50 or whatever on a pack of twenty and then have £4.50 jangling around in my pocket all day, which would get spent on crap from corner shops, the canteen etc. Its amazing how little I've spent in the 3 weeks since I quit (again). what a mug.0

I've still not managed a day without one or 2, so haven't officially stopped yet, my partner wanted to stop so I said I would join him, and he hasn't stopped which is making it much worse. One day I might be more organised...........

Hello everyone,
Phew it has taken me a while to catch up with everyone, sincere thanks to you all for keeping this going.
Where to start? Life has been utterly awful this last month. A beloved member of the family passed away suddenly a few weeks ago and life has been pretty tough since. I've smoked so much. At first I didn't care as I was so utterly devastated, I have been in a total fog. But we have had the funeral and I am starting to adjust to the situation, so I need something to re-focus on and this is it. I have never felt so healthy and proud than when I stopped smoking and I need to do it for myself to start feeling positive again.
So I'm back, the Allen Carr book has been started again, with Nicotine gum purchased as a plan B (although NRT has never really done it for me in all honesty - its my mind not my body thats th problem).
Here is to new a start, good luck everyone

Y&R sorry to hear you're having such a bad time at the minute, never makes stopping any easier. I've been on at DP again and asked him when he's stopping and I just got ignored basically. Will keep tryin to find out, I am confident that when he does I can. I haven't bought any cigarettes for ages, just using the roll up stuff I had left over, had another 3 today but none when he was outOne day I might be more organised...........

I am sooo happy to find someone else who dreams of smoking too. I get so annoyed with myself in the dream. Odd, isn't it?Ciggie free 2am 21/09/06. Debt free 25/06/09.'It was such a lovely day I thought 'it's a pity to get up'' W. Somerset Maugham.0 -

I have now hit the 10 week mark of not smoking. I am not saying this to gloat, just as another example of the fact that it can be done...so good luck to you all.
