  • This thread's gone a bit quiet, so I thought I would check in to see how my smoke-free (and wannabee smoke-free) buddies are doing....

I'm still in the wannabee smoke-free category at the moment...
Re-reading Alan Carr, hopefully ready for another attempt by the end of this week.

Well done to everyone for staying strong.

i really NEED to be part of this gang

    I have NO willpower

I have cut down from 20 a day to about 12

    but its not good enough

    I HATE smoking.

    hi skintasusual:hello:

welcome. you'll find this thread very supportive. I think you are like most smokers (including me), thinking that they have no willpower. Maybe because you have tried stopping before and not succeeded.

I resigned myself to the fact that i would be a smoker for life some time ago, as I had tried stopping and still went back to them. However, having read Allen Carr and others, I saw smoking for what it was and managed to stop relatively easily.

Please don't stop stopping! you're some way there as you 'hate smoking'. that's a good start. Read up on the subject, read Allen Carr, Neil Casey, anyone. You'll find it's worth it. Everyone has some trigger, something that makes the penny drop, whether it be patches, gum, prescription drugs or simply sorting your brain out. Find yours.

    You CAN do it!

EDIT: to say 11 weeks and going strong. Scares me to say, but I think I've DONE IT!

    WHY!!!!

Read the Alan Carr book and then you might understand why.
It really does work - despite my slip up!
It makes complete sense and takes away a lot of your fear of stopping.
    Good luck skint!

I'll second (third? fourth?) the recommendations for Allan Carr. I too hated smoking and hated being a smoker, and hated that it controlled my entire life. I couldn't go anywhere or do anything unless I had 2 packets of fags with me - one to smoke and one just in case something happened and I was caught in the middle of nowhere for hours!!!

After reading Carr, I went from 40 a day to zero overnight, 18 months ago, and it's the best thing I've ever done. The freedom is unbelievable!

  • I don't smoke but I just wanted to say good luck as my mum died from lung cancer and I saw her struggle with the illness as well as trying to give up and I know it's really hard so all the best to you.

  • I think i could do it with some support

what do people think is best - set a date?

or just hope that one day I will have the strength not to buy anymore!

I hate that feeling of worrying if you will run out and the shop is shut........i hate the smell, the taste, the anti socialness of it.

I hate that it traps me into thinking i can;t cope without it grrrrrrrr
