I have given up now for six weeks. I did it with Zyban at first (I was reliving 'one flew over the cuckoos nest for four days) but i am not smoking AND I've lost over half a stone.

I was on 25 a day for 15 years. If I can do it, anyone can.

    Good luck

I think i could do it with some support

what do people think is best - set a date?

I would set a date in the not too distant future. If its too far away you will have talked yourself out of it by the time it comes around. Also, smoke your last one at around 6 in the evening. Then you only have a few hours before bed. When you wake up you will have already done 12 hours plus, so that should give you encouragement to continue.

Also - while you are still smoking - before lighting up, take a deep breath, hold for a second, then let out slowly, then repeat. Most of the 'effect' of having a cigareette is that when you first light up, you inhale that first drag deeply. By doing the deep breathing before you light up, the cigarette will seem even less appealing as it will have less 'effect'.

    hope this helps

    You can do it skintasusual.

Do it either on Friday or Sunday at 18:00, depending how you think your weekend will go;)

So what were you using for those three months if not willpower? Stardrops? ;)

Don't be so afraid of failing that you start being afraid of trying. If you smoke - so what? Just get out there and try again.

If toddlers gave up walking because they fell over and smacked their faces - even after 3 months - then none of use would be able to walk.

or just hope that one day I will have the strength not to buy anymore!

I hate that feeling of worrying if you will run out and the shop is shut........i hate the smell, the taste, the anti socialness of it.

I hate that it traps me into thinking i can;t cope without it grrrrrrrr
Exactly how I felt, but now I'm free. You could set a date, but don't put it off too long. Think about why you want to stop. Write it down. Don't give in to the mild withdrawal symptoms 'cos you will only keep feeding them and they will die if they are starved for a few days. Make a note of how much money you're not spending, and divert it into savings, clothes, treats, whatever. I wish I could say this again without being boring, but please try the Allen Carr book (haven't tried Neil Casey, but try that too if you think it will help reinforce the message). Get it and read it with intent. Follow the rules. If it doesn't work straight away, give it more than one chance. Once you realise the trick that has been played on us by the industry, you will want to stop just to spite them!

    Hi,

Just wanted to say "Hi" and offer some support... I have stopped for 5 weeks and 3 days (apart from one last weekend in the pub)

But I had tried so amny times before and never lasted more then a week - had tried the patches, the books, chewing gum you name it, then I had flu and couldn't smoke for about 3 days then took the gum and so far so good.

Its not easy I still want one but it is getting easier

    Good Luck

Yup! Couldn't have put it better

The thing about the Neil Casey book is that it gives you a technique at the end to 'reprogramme your subconscious' (the bit that tells you to smoke). This is what did it for me and it confirms all that is said in the Allen Carr book

  • Right

I have got a diary. I'm gonna use it for other DFW stuff too, but i'll write down why i hate smoking and stuff in it. Also WHEN I stop i will use it to record money NOT spent on fags.

I had a chat with my workmates today, and they will help me too, we all go outside, and its a bit of a social thing really!!

so do we reckon SUNDAY 6PM as stop smoking time then. By then I will be able to get hold of a copy of allan carr, and hopefully started it too.

    You guys are ACE :j

now to work on the OH to join me..................
Proud to be dealing with my debts
