Stopping smoking - yes again!

I might need some support. I gave up smoking 4 months ago and have mostly found it quite easy and only craved for it now and again. This is largely because no one else I know smokes so the temptation isnt there. But I am meeting an old friend on tuesday for coffee who I know smokes like a chimney and who I know will offer me one. Anyone got any tips as to how I will get through it? I also know that if I say yes and have one no one else will know as I'll be on my own. But I really don't want to do it.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Black Saturn,
At the risk of being quite blunt, say "No Thanks, haven't smoked for ages". The chances are the friend wont give a monkeys about you not smoking. Once you've said No, change the subject and just watch your mate puffing away and be grateful you don't need to do that to be able to relax

Go somewhere for coffee where your friend cannot smoke. Then you will not be tempted. If you friend smokes like a chimney it will not do them any harm.
If that is not possible think positive about all the good points of being a non-smoker!!!!3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -
Thanks. Perhaps I will suggest we go somewhere you can't smoke then the temptation won't be there.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Good luck black saturn! Every once in a while I go out for a "fag break" with my old smoking buddies and just don't smoke! I've realised that it was the break I liked more than the fag! Ha ha,if I'd have realised that fresh air and not working was all I needed I'd have saved a fortune!!!!Quit smoking 18/08/070

Two ideas (this is what I do):
1. Don't think of them as cravings, think of them as memories "Oh I would have had a fag now, if I was a smoker". I find that this is easier for my brain to cope with than "I want a fag, but I can't have one"
2. When the 'memories' occur, I think to myself "Ok, so I could have a cigarette. Then what. It would make my eyes water, my head swim, my throat sore, my nose run. It would taste disgusting, I would cough like crazy and I would hate myself afterwards. oh yeah, and it would cost me 20 grand, because THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ONE CIGARETTE"
Hope this helps

Unfortunately OH is not doing so well, still looking at 'giving up', not 'stopping'. It was so bad yesterday he found a butt and smoked that (in an ashtray I hasten to add, not the street!). Gone to work today and bought cigarettes. I don't know how I can help him through this, it makes it so much harder for me. I was really looking forward to the house not smelling of smoke too.
On the plus side I went through a shopping trip with Mother and cooking a 3 course dinner for 5!Ciggie free 2am 21/09/06. Debt free 25/06/09.'It was such a lovely day I thought 'it's a pity to get up'' W. Somerset Maugham.0
