Just a quick note of life of balance transfers - I have had an Amex Platinum for around 4 yrs, current balance £0. Just had offer through the post from them offering me 6.9% for life of balance transfers, so they still do it, and have done so every now & again since I had the card.

p.s. just had my new chip'n'pin card through from them, much flashier design than the original ;-)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Hi there,
The offer you had through from Amex is probably a targeted offer available to selected people.

    M Thompson,
maybe so, but it is worthy of noting I first took out the card on a LOBT deal, and they keep offering it once or twice a year, every year since I've had it. Makes the CC Shuffle easier than keeping applying for new cards all the time.......

  • I simply wanted to confirm the fact that AMEX currently has a very high approval rate (for credit cards, not talking about the charge card) even if you have been rejected elsewhere and NEED a higher credit limit
  • easy approval, high limits, sounds good, but do they do any good offers for balance transfers? As you can see from my signature I have a 'devil' credit card I need a BT on

  • Both I and the OH were rejected for other cards but we both got accepted for the Amex Platinum card.....interestingly enough I had twice the credit limit he had even though most of our debt is on my name - so work that one out!

The bad news though is that Amex aren't doing any balance trasnfers - apparently its because the UK is massively in debt becasue of balance transfers ....yeah I couldn't work that one out either.

So I must be the 1st person they've had to activiate their card and then close the account in the same telephone conversation.

I was being refused by everyone (Egg, Mint, Capital One) but got accepted without question for an Amex Nectar card..... I have one of those 'credit repair' cards (high-ish APR) from Citicards that I've had for a few years, with a limit of £1000. Amex gave me a limit of £3500! What makes it even stranger is that I have one CCJ from 5 years ago..... guess who with.... yep, Amex.

(On another note though, Egg refused me but I appealed it after getting the Amex. Egg went through the appeal very quickly, asking me to explain my history etc. I sent off my bank statements and statements for the Citicard and have now been approved for a 0% Egg card, with a £3000 limit....... my first ever appeal, and would recommend doing it to anyone)
