    Congratulations CMD! Welcome baby Evie!
    DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!
Proud to have dealt with my debts!
  • Thanks for all the congrats! All going well but it is very hectic and I am also trying to pack as well as we have decided to move home next week, so about 2 months earlier than planned.

I am feeding Evie myself and all seems to be going well. I forgot how easy a new baby is compared to a toddler. They are a breeze :) She seems to be quite contented and slept from 10pm to 3am last night and then 4.30am - 7.30am so if that can continue I will be happy.

On an MSE note OH got a letter to say he has overpaid tax in 2009/2010 so if he gets that back (I am such a cynic) we will be able to pay off another credit card & be nearer to gettting under 10k.

We have decided not to look at houses until at least next summer as house prices are still falling rapidly. What we might do is sell our flat in 2013 when our fixed mortgage is up and then buy. I really want to buy now but a) we prob wouldn't get a mortgage and b) I want our debt gone & to have a decent deposit.

I think I will enjoy being at home first and then concentrate on learning to drive. That and 2 babies should keep me busy!

Great about the potential tax refund - did they say how much. We got one a few weeks ago - one letter said he was getting one and in the same post was the cheque. We were delighted as you can imagine!

Glad that things are going well with little Evie. Sounds like things have improved for you.

    Hi SavingH!

Yes, the tax refund is nearly 3k so will pay off one of the credit cards. I think when/if OH gets it, it will spur me on to start repaying properly again as we will be nearly under 10k so it is more motivating. I feel a bit like we are drowning in debt at the moment, although things will be easier when I am back in Ireland and when OH moves into our old flat in Feb 2012.

Hi CMD - £3K is a massive chunk of money - just what you need to give morale a boost. Great that you are paying it off your debt before MSE it would have probably been frittered.

Why do you feel like you're drowing in debt - you are still making progress - which is pretty good considering you are now on maternity leave and you have an extra little bundle of joy to feed, clothe and otherwise look after. None of us are supermum - it takes a lot of effort to run a family and manage a budget. It will be nice when you get to go home to Ireland tho - altho I'm sure you will miss your OH and he will miss you.

    Hi SavingH,

Think I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the move the other day. I have put a more positive slant on it now and we are paying off OH's credit card (keeping the rest of the money for couriers and moving costs). I also negotiated a 12 month 0% balance transfer deal with Virgin (I have a card with them) so that just leaves us with about 4k that we have to pay interest on. We will try and get that down as quickly as possible.

I am looking forward to getting to Ireland and not having to worry about moving/packing/jobs/bills for at least 6 months!

I probably shouldn't get too ahead of myself though, as the fella at Virgin said it takes 2 days to be approved. Hopefully it is just a formality as thanks to Reading Council messing up our council tax payments, I don't think my credit record looks the best.

Hi CMD hopefully the 0% will go thro alright. You can always ask for a notice of correction on your credit rating account

Its bound to be hectic with moving day coming up and it will be weird as you and your OH will be in different countries chunks of the week - but at the end of the day - you've tried the other ways and it hasn't been working so now you're looking for a new strategy which takes you closer to home and family. I think that's understandable with two little ones....

    You'll get thro this
