Supermarket Snobbery

I totally agree with the comments about asda being 'boring' i used to shop at asda because it's local and my parents do so you just get used to their stuff. After trying the big tesco extra i won't go back in asda i hate the place since they renovated the asda store i find it awfully dull and the customer service is rubbish. I can't quite put my finger on it but really enjoy going over to tesco it's like a trip out lol. I wonder if it's one of those phycological things with the lighting or something? I find tesco much brighter inside.
As for lidls i like the prices and their products i just don't get the chance to go in there as much as i should. Prefer to buy from tescos online only for convenience but must try harder to think ahead and get shopping in from lidls and the tinned stuff is great. Potatos being a fav, i have noticed over the years the type of person buying in lidls has changed i used to go when they 'rough' people were the only ones in there. Now you'll see some much more normal looking shoppers lol0 -
I find all the major supermarkets so souless and similar that it is boring to use them. We are lucky in my area as we have a farm shop nearby that sells a vast range of fruit/veg from it's own farm and from other local farms. We also have a 'pick your own' farm where I can go to pick my own veges and fruit. It isn't organic, but it is fresh. I can get carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, all soft fruit, courgettes etc etc. They have orchards with apples, pears, plums and bee hives for honey. We also have a butchers on a farm so the beef, pork and lamb is local. I buy lots at WIlkinsons, cleaning stuff, toiletries etc. I refuse to go to Tesco's because of their treatment of suppliers, and Asda are not much better. I live in Kent - perhaps I am just lucky to have other options which means I don't use the major supermarkets at all. If you look at your local area, you may find you have this choice too.0

i bought a gazebo at aldis for a bargain £50 - it survived for an afternoon and second time of use wouldn't open as parts were split. When I took it back the reply was no the 30 days money back has expired - phone the manufacturers help line - no reply. I contacted the office of fair trading who advised me of my rights and to contact aldis using one of their proforma letters. Sorry Aldis but tesco would not have argued - its i'll never risk buying anything but cheap food from aldis - tvs computers etc forget it!0

I had never been in Aldi till today but the one i visited didnt have a lot of food and i must admit i like choice ..I thought their plants were a good buy but it wasnt for me at all.
I like sainsburys best probably as my family shopped in it so i was bought up on sainsburys,But i do use Tesco and i have used waitrose several times.
I am not a food snob but somethings i like for my own personal tastes.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
value for money = decent food at an affordable price. why pay dirt cheap prices for bad quality food?! how is that 'value for money'?!
lidl, netto, aldi, farmfoods, asda and now tesco are all the same. NASTY overpriced food. in the new times where food prices have been inflated, these 'cheap' places are no longer 'cheap'. If its inedible/bland then how is it 'value for money'?!
its not snobbery.... its quality over quantity.0 -

I dont believe any of the big 4 supermarkets are better or worst than each other, come on now how the heck can they be when they all sell the same stuff and 9 times out of 10 all have the same offers at different times!!
I do however find it interesting that some people think that if they "had money" they would shop at Waitrose or M&S, this is misguided and foolish you have fallen for the worst of the worst and that is brand brainwashing just because it has a waitrose or m&s sticker on it does not automatically make it any better than anything else lol foolish..........................
If I "has the money" I would only ever shop locally, at local butchers organis farms etc etc this is where the best quality of food is and always has been, saldy they have always outpriced themselves so I cannot afford to constantly week after week give them my money, but if I was rich this is where I would shop
Now who's foolish again?!0 -
u r not SERIOUS with this tosh?! r u seriously saying a fresh piece of meat or fish from say Asda would be BETTER or on the same level as M&S or Waitrose?
Now who's foolish again?!
Maybe not Asda fish or meat, but what I think the previous poster was referring to was other branded M&S items. Aldi for example has many identical products to Waitrose and M&S which are all produced in the same factory - just have different labels put on them (search some of the other threads on here for proof if you don't believe me)
All this for a third of the price. Definitely marketing over substance. So not tosh at all!
Also some of Aldi's meat and fish is as good as anything from M&S and Waitrose, just read the press reviews on their website.0 -
I admit I don't go to the Aldi near me but that's because I'd have to walk over a level crossing, and I am terrified of it. I don't like most of Aldi's brands anyway - do like Lidl but there isn't one near me.0

Well I think you are being foolish, I didn't see UnderPressure mention fresh fish or meat, so why bring it up?
UnderPressure did say he/she would shop at a local butcher if he/she could afford it. But that has nothing to do with the quality between asda and waitroes/M&S.
In all arguments about which supermarket is best the stores own brand always comes up. But what about brand names? Heinz beans are the same in waitroes as they are in asda. So is Kellogs corn flakes, Kellogs don't make one type of corn flakes for waitrose and another, cheaper version for asda, if it says Kellogs on the box then it doesn't mater where you buy the box. It's the same stuff, just a different price.
If I were you, before I called people foolish I would learn to spell the words "you" and "are", then make sure I had the energy to type them in full before posting in a forum.0
