Where I live it works in reverse to what everyone else here is saying. I find that the wealthiest people in my area know how to handle their money better than the poorer folk. In the car park of the aldi and lidl in the town centre theres always really nice, expensive cars.

Yeah theres usually a reason why these rich people got rich and know how to stay rich. Start blowing cash right left and center a rich person quickly become poor.

I know from my building trade days it tended to be the richer someone was the longer they took to pay. There would be the multimillionaire (i can think of one individual in particular) who had a lot of rental property's who every time you worked for him you would have to 'remind' him a month or so after you drop the bill off but there would be little old dears with very little, practically chasing you down the road with money the moment you finish. Even though you planned to drop the bill in over the coming few days (ie when you type it up).

    Anyway im sidetracking.

Regarding the client-el of my 3 nearest Aldis (i'm about equidistant for all 3).

1 Is in a working class town, high Asian population, high ish crime rate, local completion Netto and Tescos. Store seems to seem grubby and the fresh fruit does not seem to be as good (but i get the sell out quick thurs/sunday deals from this store, calling on Thurs before opening for a new computer at this one).
    2. Middle class area of a local city. Bang next door to a massive Asda. Quality seems good, range seems good etc.
Store no 3: Bang next to an M&S food. Quality of stock seems great, availability great, layout clean and uncluttered, Range seems to be more targeted at the M&S type middle class shopper. So seems to me like they vary to their target audience.

Anyone else with several Aldi stores in differing locations having a different feel or seemingly cleanliness?
Might just be because i get that feeling with the differing clientel but im not sure.

  • I can't be doing with supermarket snobbery, whether it be about the supermarket itself, or the goods people buy in them. I hate it when people look down on others for shopping at places they wouldn't choose to shop at, or criticise people for buying value/low price/non branded stuff. I even dislike it when people look down on people who buy top range food e.g Finest - each to their own if they can afford it (It's when they can't afford to buy all top range stuff and get themselves further into financial doodah that it's an issue I think)

Well my standards must be on the floor. As I treat Aldi/Lindel as a kind of deli. They have so many wonderful goods that I can't get any where else!

Its a treat for me to shop there! :o

    Great coffee ice cream!
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

You know its funny in a way when some seem to have brand or in this case Supermarket loyalty in a supporting them kind of way like a sports team.

They are just another business trying to attract your custom and get that extra few pounds out of your hands and into theirs every week.

People, make them work for your hard earned cash by forcing them to fight for your hard earned cash by not being blindly loyal!

If your willing to switch at the drop of a hat it forces them to cut prices/raise standards or go under and someone who can be better will take their place.

Well I don't shop in Aldi, Lidl or any of the other discount stores as they are always shut by 5pm, I cannot get to the supermarket before 9pm and quite often shop around 11pm
Not all branches are the same, our Aldi stays open until 8pm - not that that would help you much!

I don't know about Lidl, but Aldi queues (thankfully) move much more quickly than Tesco ones.

There are 4 Aldi's near to me 2 in poor areas and 2 in wealthier. They are all exactly the same in terms of layout, stock and cleanliness, One is a bit more cramped but it has been there a good 15-20 years and the others are newer. Must be the customers!

Also the person who said Aldi and Lidl shut at 5 is talking rubbish, they are open until at least 8 sometimes 10 which is fine for most people.

I can't seem to get much worthwhile food out of Lidl or Aldi. I can go to Morrisons and get everything i need, but i want to like Aldi, so i go now and again but usually walk out with not a lot. Not sure if that's just cos my local one is pap.

I don't care where I shop, I am attracted to the biggest bargains :D Unfortunately my local is a Waitrose so if I want bargains I have to go further afield.
