Could be, but it looked far too basic a camera to me. I would expect to have to put your eye close to something for iris recognition. Maybe someone knows better?0 -

It was my eyes that had to be within a certain space for the picture as well, so I did believe what he told me. That was in Dallas.0 -
When I arrived in Chicago this Spring, everyone had to put their right hand index finger on a computerised camera built into the custom's desk.
I wouldn't worry about it, they take photos of you in the UK as you board, so photographing millions of small index fingers isn't really going to count for much in the future, just bad luck if your finger is a good match for someone released from "Gitmo" in Cuba.
Enjoy your holiday.

Cyprus was second choice so I'll have a look at a trip there instead.
I am sure there is a reason behind you not wanting to get the kids fingerprints taken that you perhaps don't want to share on here - but are you really going to change your holiday destination because of it ??
Feel free to PM me if you want detailed procedure of what happens, I fly to America a lot.****************************0 -
might be fun for the kids to be rpinted!!! unless they are criminals

It is all rather strange as to why the OP would not go to the states just because the kids need fingerprinting.
I go to the west coast a lot, as it is my fav destination.
Dont let it dtop you going!!!!0 -
I dont think its strange, I am an honest (well most of the time) person in a job where I enforce the law and I have nothing to hide. Now I would have a slight problem with my fingerprints being taken. It may be a civil liberty thing or concern about the possible misuse of fingerprints stored on a database either by the authorities or criminals, but for whatever reason it does not rest well with me. Having said that I would of course not let it stop me from traveling.
Dont assume that people have something to hide if they are reluctant to give their fingerprints.0 -

You enforce the law in your job yet you are only honest 'most of the time' ??
And how on earth would the fingerprints being taken at the airport possibly be misused by authorities or criminals ??

I fail to see how having my fingerprints taken at the airport infringes my civil liberties. However, whether it actually does any good in the fight against terrorism I have no idea. If it does help, then I have no problem with it.0
