ING - FREE £20 for Opening an Account with £1.00

Expires 31/07/10

Found this in the Grabbits Forum and thought it has relevance here for those who like to make easy money, though you certainley wouldn't want to deposit and leave much here as there are better rates available elsewhere.

On the phone to them opening it as I write. It's pretty good as the 2.75% instant access is guaranteed for 12 months. I just hope they don't chuck something better out for new customers only in the next few months that I won't now qualify for. But still unlikely to mean it wasn't worth getting the £20 anyway.

Many thanks for the heads up :money:
  • Crap, I just deposited the majority of my savings into that account about 4 weeks ago!

*Rate only applies for applicants who have not held an ING Direct Savings Account in the last 6 months

    New customers only.

You keep trying ING, you keep trying .........

    Hi

Can anyone please tell me whether the savings are safe and what is the limit?

    thanks
  • Yes they are protected under the Dutch scheme and as a massive EU bank it wont go bust.

However be warned all ING promotional rates are only good for the time they give as they WILL reduce the rate to something stupid once the trial period is over, if you on the ball take advantage but many people just leave it there after 12months which is what they rely on. My OH had this experience with her ISA she opened with them a few yrs back.

I was told on the phone it will revert to their standard variable rate for savings (currently 0.5%) after 12 months. My money won't stay there then, but you shouldn't really be leaving savings in the same instant access account for more than a year anyway.

Sounds really good. Are there any fees involved in transferring the money from my HSBC account into this one, I assume not. Hopefully this can easily be done with internet banking ;).

That would depend on your HSBC account in question, not on this one. But it is unlikely unless you have a fixed rate bond or a notice account. If it is a fixed rate bond, it won't be worth closing it. If it is a notice account, give your notice and open the ING account in the meantime.

You will need to open this one before you can transfer in anyway. You can open it with as little as a pound for now. I have to send in a cheque because they already had a customer number for me from an old mortgage agreement in principle, but if you are completely brand new to ING, you can make your initial deposit when opening it with a debit card.

Actually, I have the money in an instant savings account where I get 0.2%. Obviously, thats not the place to keep the money, so I am thinking of moving it from there into the ING account. Should be fine I assume.

I closed an ING direct account about 8 months ago so it looks like I can get the 2.75% but not the £20. I recently opened a SAGA account paying the same so I don't think I'll bother. I would have just for the £20 but.....
