ING - FREE £20 for Opening an Account with £1.00

Called ING Direct and they said that the promotion is aimed at selected customers. Specifically, to qualify for the £20 incentive, you would need not just the promotion code ("ING085" as stated in this thread and on the website) but also a promotion ID.
I delved further and pointed out that this promotion is on their public website but they insisted that both the promotion code and promotion ID are needed to get the £20 incentive.0 -
Called ING to see if I could get this deal but as I already had an existing direct saver account with them they wouldn't let me have it. I knew I didn't qualify but as the existing account has had a zero balance for almost a year (since the last bonus rate ended) I thought they might bend the rules for me. Nope!
Never bothered to close the last account as there isn't a "close" button on the website, asked them to do it on the phone (Might be another deal in 6 months time!) and wow: what a palaver!, spent another 15 mins answering questions and assuring them I knew what I was doing.0 -

And if you look further down the smallprint (http://www.ingdirect.co.uk/feelgood/) it says:
"Promotional offer is limited to the addressee only or members of the household at which the addressee lives."
Sounds like it's all by invitation only.0 -
How very annoying. I opened this account just last week and there was no mention of the promotion.
Damn, I want £20!0 -
After reading about the excitement this offer is creating it is important to set the record straight in order to avoid disappointment.
This offer is STRICTLY limited to the addressee only, or members of the household at which the addressee lives. If someone not meeting these conditions uses the promotion code the first they will learn that they haven’t qualified is after we check their name and address back with our original mailing list and the £20 credit does not appear on their new account statement.0 -

Hi folks,
Sadly, ING have told us that they won't be paying out the £20 unless applicants fulfil all criteria, which include having been sent the offer directly.
We have written a news article on this: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/new...ut-on-20-bonus
