    * 6 September: Survey results received - everything ok.
    * 7 September: Sent payslips to mortgage company.
    * 12 September: Searches completed by solicitors - all ok.
    * 21 September: Valuation carried out by mortgage company.
    * 26 September: Mortgage offer received in writing! Also received a load of stuff from the solicitors (fixtures/fittings details, property details, land registry details etc.)

    Update:

We are signing everything tomorrow, should exchange on Monday, and *fingers crossed* will complete at the end of next week.

Thats great upset! Your solicitors seem to be on the ball compared to mine. I dont actually know if they have done anything! Did you have to keep calling them?

  • Our vendor has now told us they don't want to complete until end of November. They wanted to exchange in 28 days and then keep us hanging around. I'm not just mad I'm furious. I can only get 1 day off for moving (teacher) so wanted to move October half term.

Very tempted to tell them OK then, make it xmas holiday (they are emigrating!). They knew this all along as her parents who live in the annexe have a long holiday booked before they even think about moving.

  • Hi

Offer received on our property 19th June.
Made offer on a house 28th July.
Mortgage offer received 10 days later.
Date of completion set for 20th October.
We were due to exchange on 27th September.
4 people in chain altogether (now 5!!).

On exchange, the solicitor above us discovered that there was a house purchase at the top of the chain that he was not aware of!

Since then, I have been phoning my solicitor asking to know the what stage that purchase is at. My solicitor keeps ringing the solicitor above, he does not reply. This has gone on since Wednesday. Feel bloody annoyed as well as completely stressed out. This information is obviusly critical.

Thought it was all going too smoothly compared to the experiences of many others who have kindly posted.

Just thought I'd share. I am so fed up with solicitors.

  • Our buyers have been round this morning with a builder, as they want to extend our house after they move in. While we were chatting, they just happened to mention that their buyer can't get a mortgage so they've put their house back on the market!!!!

The bloke we're buying off is in a real hurry to move, and I'm 99% sure that when he finds out there's a delay he will pull out and sell to someone else. He'd had loads of offers on the house, and the only reason he went with us in the first place was because we had the shortest chain.

I've just rung the estate agents and they're going to tell the man we're buying off that there is now a delay. Worst thing is that the survey is due to be done on Monday, and they've taken the money for it already - so if we don't find out what's happening today, we will probably end up paying for a survey on a house that we can't buy.

I don't know what to do, we're just sat by the phone waiting for someone to tell us what's happening.

Really sorry to hear that starlorna22. It's amazing how little idea some people have about the whole process. Fancy not telling you until they come around today!

    Here's my experience:-

We accepted an offer on our flat from a FTB on 10th July and then had our offer accepted on a (vacant) house on 12th July.

We finally exchanged contracts yesterday after a long tedious wait. :j

Now got another three weeks to wait for completion (24th Oct) as our buyer needs to give notice on the flat he's renting..

The moral of the story is - don't believe any of the estimates they give you for the total time it takes to move (it'll be 15 weeks for us with virtually no chain!)

Things have moved rapidly for us.

We already had the offer accepted on the property we're looking to buy. This happened last Thursday.

Our house went on the market that same day (we werent expecting to find a property we loved so quickly!). We've had several viewings, one having a second viewing today. She made an offer, which we accepted.

So, we now have a cash buyer for our property (she's living with relatives). The property we are buying has a simple chain - the vendors are buying a house from someone who has already bought a business, and will be living at that business.... A 4 person, 2 house chain.

    Fingers crossed!

    A little update:

Survey complete on the house we're buying - no issues.
No survey being done on our house (cash buyer) but she's bringing a builder friend around on Friday.
Solicitors have received our sellers pack today, so it's anyone's guess when a draft contract will get drawn up......
As usual, it's the solicitors who are dragging their heels.
Fingers crossed for a move before Christmas

I got so sick of chasing my solicitor. She would return about 1 out of 10 calls, and I would spend entire days trying to get her on the phone. The responses would be:-

    "She's on the phone"
    "She's with a client"
    "She's in a meeting"
    "She's not at her desk"

    Repeated ad nauseam...

I'm getting sick of them already. I called them yesterday to chase their non receipt of our sellers pack, and was told that it was probably delayed due to them changing the reference number for our case... and the other excuse was that they're such a large law firm so post takes a while to sort and find it's way into the right case.
Now I work for one of the largest law firms in the UK (one of the magic circle of law firms) so I'm sorry, but that really doesnt wash with me. I've never heard a lawyer lost for words until yesterday ;-)
