I agree with gracieP, the lack of sympathy to cash-strapped parents on this thread (and others btw) is sickening. why cant people understand that through NO fault of their own people often cannot afford to pay for these 'luxuries'. and they ARE luxuries! people are made redundant, lose their jobs, or are in jobs which only pay the national minimum and people on here are slagging them off as druggies and scum when in reality they are hardworking law abiding people! some of you on here disgust me! my most fervent wish right now is that some of you self-rightous twits find yourselves on the breadline and experience exactly what that is like! (or alternatively find yourselves homeless). and i bet you all go to church every sunday and religously put your ten pence in the 'poor box'.0

Where do you live? No one goes to church anymore. They're growing out of their imaginary friends.:p0 -

Last week my son's nursery arranged for an outside theatre type group to come in to the school, and put on a show for the children, songs, dancing etc...
Parents were asked to pay £5.00, and were also allowed to watch the show with the children in the school hall.
I noticed that four of the children from the nursery class, were escorted off to another classroom just before the show started.
One of the Grandmothers asked why they weren't watching the show, as one of the children was her friends little one.
We were told they hadn't paid there £5.00 so could not watch the show.
The grandmother paid the £5.00 for her friends child, as she was certain it was a mix up,the little girl is collected by mother/father-the letter asking for the money may have got lost.
I have being thinking about this all weekend. These children are only 3-4 years old, and if there parents do not pay, why should they be punished.
I find it very cruel that they were not allowed to watch.
Does anyone else think this is unfair?
im sorry but i think this is fair in our school their are parents who always pay the funds/trip monies etc and others who never do ,why should we supplement other children when other parents cannot be bothered. i may have a harsh opinion here but it is mine and i have had experience in having to deal with the parents who say they cant afford it when we know better. the school funds cannot be drained to parents who just dont want their children to be invovled in activities as in the long run it is all the children who suffer, the budget just cant stretch to it:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0 -
Oh dear Fang I so thank you for the best laugh I think I have had in years. I have just invited my other pensioner friends to view this post and they have all appreciated a good laugh as well.
I am a lifelong Conservative, Catholic lady who wouldnt have dared buck the system let alone parental disapproval to either be a communist or despite erotic thoughts live in a commune.
Talking thisiover with my pensioner friends we feel you are a sad bitter person who has not had much of life, maybe did not feel loved as a child, and as such we feel for you, but my own personal feeling is that perhaps you should grow up now and stop attention seeking in this negative way.
Best wishes Meg

I suppose it comes down to whether you believe that the welfare state should provide free and equal education & health care funded by the tax paying citizens and businesses of the country.
All the stuff about budgeting, instalments and hardship funds etc is just nonsense, just fund all educational school activities from general taxation, earn more = pay more, earn less = pay less, one system to decide what you have to pay (or not), much reduced bureaucracy in schools, no chasing payments/collecting & banking money etc etc so schools can concentrate on education.0 -
oh and by the way im not a self ritious twit, i am a hard working mum who puts the needs and education of her children first and think of myself after if it means me not going out for one eve/not buying clothes/booze/fags etc then so be it ( not that i do all that it was an example):xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

It's a lovely idea but it will never work. You know it, and I know it.0 -

Obviously some people think that the decent parents should carry the burden for everyone else and allow those that can't be bothered, to carry on taking from everyone else.0 -

Is there a problem with being a hard working mum who put the needs and education of all the country’s children first and is willing to fund it through taxation, rather than individual parents having to make the choice between something educational at the school or “not going out for one eve/not buying clothes/booze/fags” in your case and/or food/mortgage/bills etc in other less fortunate peoples cases?0 -

It's not her responsibility. It's just passing the buck to the decent parents and allowing the scum to get away with doing nothing. Communism didn't work the first few hundred times.0 -

As we're agreed it is a lovely idea maybe you should try and work towards making it work?
Maybe even join a group of like minded people and work collectively towards it?
Spread the word and hopefully democracy will do the rest0
