    I quite agree.

They are getting more and more expensive(as are a lot of other things)
and this would take the pressure off both parents and teachers.

At the detriment to the children.

i don't agree with children being treated like this either. on friday my sons school is having a 'whole school picnic' which is lovely except my oh is away and I'm on placement at uni and can't go, he is really upset, therefore is is staying with our babysitter (17 year old from next door). They are having a picnic outside. She could take them but I think around all of his friends they get over excitable and I don't want her to struggle. I don't think schools always think through what they are doing.

PS before anyone starts about not using a registered childminder-see my previous thread from beginning of the month about a lcak of this in my area...

Does he have to have an adult present with him at the school picnic? - i.e. are there not enough adults there to help out?

tbh I'm surprised schools bother to plan anything nice for the kids these days :(

But to flip and reverse the situation just because some parents can't afford/or won't pay why should all the children miss out on these things? :(

they can go without parents-but he doesn't want to be there as he will be one of the only ones without a parent-the school seems to expect the few parents that do work to come and skip work! Its always the same children that parents don't go and the look of disappointment in their faces is too much! Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but he has said that if we aren't going then he doesn't want to. I have spoke to my parents and they only ever got asked to go to parents evening, sports day and christmas play.

If that's true, why do you care that these children missed out at all?

I suspect that the answer is what I said before. Some people who prefer it if everyone was dragged down to the bottom level.:(

The Nursery had managed to collect enough money for the show to go ahead ,regardless of the non payers.

It was the Nursery that made the callous decision to exclude the children -regardless of any reasoning behind the decision ,their actions were highly unprofessional and unnecessary - in fact I Would go as far to say that the staff involved in the decision should face disciplinary action.

I'm sure that ofsted would be most interested to hear about the practices that this Nurseries management appear to adopt.

I can totally see your point, young children are innoncent, but their parents are responsible for them at the end of the day.

Yes the show was paid for, but we don't have all the facts, maybe the parents of these children reguarly don't pay and the nursery had to take a stand, maybe the parents who do pay had complained previously at the unfairness that they pay and others don't - who knows! Without all the facts we can only guess. Maybe the thread title should be changed to cruel school/cruel parents? Maybe the nursery messed up, or maybe the parents just couldn't be bothered, either explanation is plausable.

Understand where you are coming from but have to disagree Why the need to hold the kids responsible. Three to four year olds have no concept of money matters. To me every adult has a responsibility to look after children. Whether you have any or not.
