Mean spirited and petty OH YES. also me and mine are OK sod the rest. I really really wish it was like back in my childhood. Poor honest, hardworking but with a fundimental regard for the littlest and most vunerable. When people cared and shared. My Irish Nan
thought nothing of having half a dozen kids in for tea when she had
    enough to share.

Sadly I think these time are gone. Whatever happened to make everyone so selfish, I dont know but I grieve for what I think we have all lost.

I do know what you mean, but there are still some of us that care like the OP who posted this. I do agree though, society does very much seem to be all about 'me' now and material things seem to count for so much. I find this really sad as some of the most unhappiest people I know are those that have the most.

People started taking the !!!! with it and took far more and didn't contribute at all. And then the good, decent people got sick of their own going without while those that did nothing got more.

Regardless of principle, they should NOT,under any circumstances, be using a 3 year old child to prove a point !

There are times when most children have to learn that they can't always have what others are having - But it should not happen in an educational setting - Every child should be treated equally and have the same opportunities within the class room, regardless of the parents ability or willingness to pay.

    I disagree.

The parents involved hope people will feel that way so are happy to gamble with their child's emotions.

The buck stops with the parents - they need to take responsibility for their child.

Or maybe I should refuse to pay for my dd's school lunch and let them feed her - because she should have the same opportunities as everyone else in the school...?

Yet another reason for skiing trips to be removed from schools, the teachers don't like it.
My mum used to organise the ski trips at her school - she enjoyed it, but it was tremendously hard work. At her school the trip was always in february half-term (and so was effectively unpaid overtime for her), and required months of preparation. Once on the trip, she was effectively "on duty" 24-7, and so it was hardly a free jolly.

I still maintain that such trips should be offered, regardless of whether it is outside the budget of some families, because such trips are life-enhancing experiences for most of the kids that go on them - and many of those kids will never have such an opportunity again.

    you shouldn't judge the school
you don't know how many times these parents had refused to pay, underpaid, bounced chqs etc how many times the school had already subsidised their children
the money has to come from somewhere

parents can pretty much be split into groups
    • those who work & have plenty of money & can afford averything without a problem
    • those who work but have to budget & sometimes struggle to pay but they always do because their kids are top priority
    • those who don't work but find the money somewhere no matter how many children they have or how much the trips cost
    • those who don't work & don't bother because other things are more important to them
you are not able to make a profit on school trips so the cost has to be split evenly between all this often means trips are cancelled, this can lead to cross parents because other children miss out (but we're not able to ask for extra money to cover those who haven't paid)
if parents come to school and explain there is almost always something that can be done, schools are not the bad guys here and are happy to help those that are in genuine need. but there are those that are offered payment options (for example 50p a week from feb for a trip that was due in june with more than 1 child to pay for) but just don't take them so when the trips came up couldn't afford them & only paid a very small contribution. the children went on the trip and i now know that i will never get any money from that family again as they will continue to expect to be subsidised until a trip is cancelled!
aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgh what are we supposed to do!!!!!

I am thinking about complaining, and I will also be bringing up a recent trip in june for some of the year 5 children, where the school charged a 6 pound entry fee to an attraction, when it was actually free for the month of june!

I wonder where this money has gone!

Why would you complain about something you dont have the full facts about and that didnt affect your child?

The entry fee may have been free on the other trip but some venues still charge schools due to the amount of children. If a coach was needed it can easily amount to £6 each just for that as coach hire, fuel and insurance is very expensive.

Agreed about the £6 entry for a "free" attraction. The cost most likely was for transport or food, or maybe a special guide for the group. Without more information it is hard to judge, and I doubt very much that the school made a profit from the kids.

I think its always been that way but surely the Good and Decent would never hold a babe responsible for what they, the adults do.

I am sure my Nan never let us go without for what she chose to give to the other poor little sods.

It's fair enough to suggest that the OP should find out the full facts, but her child not being affected is hardly a reason to ignore something she believes to be unfair.

In your world, I should only care about injustice if my child is affected, and shouldn't give a stuff as long as my child's ok.

I'm glad most people don't think like that - where would we be? Certainly there would be no NHS...

Your nan probably had a choice. People today are expected to pay their taxes and then watch as those on benefits have a better lifestyle than their own.
