Cruel School?

Apart from the parent who overheard the another parent going off on one and refusing to pay any more money to the nursery...?
I think this may have been about principle tbh.
If a parent is outright refusing to fund any extra activities for their child, and within earshot of other parents, what is the nursery supposed to do?
Should they let it go, knowing other parents will be aware this one family get away without paying because they refuse to?
I'm guessing this isn't the first time and tbh the other children may have been caught in the cross fire, but then again, maybe they are all serial non-payers?
I am sure they'd have been accommodating if a parent had told them they simply could not afford the fee, and so they should, but I fail to see why parents should be allowed to send the nursery and other parents on a guilt trip.
Regardless of principle, they should NOT,under any circumstances, be using a 3 year old child to prove a point !
There are times when most children have to learn that they can't always have what others are having - But it should not happen in an educational setting - Every child should be treated equally and have the same opportunities within the class room, regardless of the parents ability or willingness to pay.0 -
You've never spoken to the other parents? Do your children not play with the other kids outside of school? Have they never been to parties or vice versa?
Nope.. Why would I want to speak to the other parents? I am taking my children to be educated not extend my social circle.
Nope, they don't play with the other children outside of school. DD4 has been to a friend house a few times but the mum is the mothe of my sons first long term gf and I have known her for 18 years! But conversation is limited to pleasantries only.
I don't have other children coming to parties.. when they are oing to parties they are dropped off at the start and collected at the end..
I'm not very sociable, which if you actually met me you would be most shocked by!!.. probably due to my lack of exorcism through baptism.. I have enough in my life without other peoples drama.. I could never be one of those parents that stands and talks outside the gates.. i just want to run away lol

I suppose it just shocks me that anyone would be like that and not actively encourage their children to be more sociable. Knowledge and experience is power and all that.0 -
Yet another reason for skiing trips to be removed from schools, the teachers don't like it.Hardly. The ones that do it do it to give the children the experience. Or do you just think that the best teachers, who go above and beyond what they need to do, should be removed too?
such trips are wonderful for some children.. my daughter went to Lourdes last year.. cost an arm and a couple of legs and she learned so much from it.. I am saving for DD2 to go in 2 years time!
They've done a couple of other residentials and had a fabulous time.. I think they should be encouraged to do more of these type of trips. Definitely a case of.. pay or stay though.. no subsidies here!I suppose it just shocks me that anyone would be like that and not actively encourage their children to be more sociable. I didn't say the children aren't sociable.. I said I'm not.. though the girls have 1 or 2 close friends.. the boys don't have friends at all.. but they have problems with social skills (one has a development delay the other has aspergers) My oldest son thinks everyone and his dog is his friend.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I’m struggling to see how you can logically be pro expensive skiing trips with free places for teachers & spouses normally in term time yet against a couple of babies being allowed to watch a theatre show with the rest of their class/school because their parents hadn’t/couldn’t stump up a fiver.
If you want wealth based education then sod off to the private sector, the state sector should be inclusive and free even for “brats” & “scum”.
Actually, make that especially for “brats” & “scum” because they’ll probably benefit the most from it

It's very easy to see the logic. As you're having trouble with it, I'll break it down for you.
Firstly - there were subsidized places for staff and no spouses came on the skiing trips that I went on, but in the wider context those teachers and spouses aren't on holiday, they are effectively working 24/7 ensuring that the children are safe and well.
Secondly - those parents who made a loud fuss about refusing to pay are to blame here. No one else. The school was forced into the position to either support the decent parents who pay for their children, or back down to the loudmouth scum who refused. They made the right decision. It is absolutely unfair for the good parents to have to pay for those who refuse to.
It's all very well saying that those who want a better education should go with the private sector, but why should they? They pay more tax and therefore pay more towards the state sector and deserve to have their children treated better. You should remember that state education is not free. The rest of us pay for it, so the scum can have access to it. When they refuse to even acknowledge that and don't make the extra effort for their children, then you know that something has gone wrong. But don't try and lay the blame with those that are actively involved with their children's education, lay it where it belongs with the scum that make such a fuss and force the school to act over £5.0 -
I do not agree that school trips are good value and allow a child to go somewhere that would not normally be afforded.I could take my whole family away for the cost of one school trip for five days.Theme parks always have offers on usually kids go free etc. and clubcard deals etc. and my kids would get a full day there instead of the half a day travelling and half a day actually there.0

I’m inclined to agree with you but society does seem to be getting more and more mean spirited and petty, you only have to look at some of the posts on this thread.
At 3 years old it would be pretty easy to take them out and entertain them without them realising what was going on which is what I assume happened even though I fundamentally disagree with the reasoning behind it.
If any of them were grown up enough to realise what was going on then is tantamount to cruelty and I was involved I’d be contacting the school governors/LEA
Mean spirited and petty OH YES. also me and mine are OK sod the rest. I really really wish it was like back in my childhood. Poor honest, hardworking but with a fundimental regard for the littlest and most vunerable. When people cared and shared. My Irish Nan
thought nothing of having half a dozen kids in for tea when she had
enough to share.
Sadly I think these time are gone. Whatever happened to make everyone so selfish, I dont know but I grieve for what I think we have all lost.Slimming World at target0
