    Here's a question for you:

Let's suppose that O2 come back with "We've agreed to match the Apple 30 day return policy for the iPhone". The other networks would have to follow suit or risk losing customers (new ones may not go with them and existing ones could feel slighted and switch loyalty).

Now comes the question: What do you think the other phone manufacturers would do?

Would HTC suddenly decide that they should have a 30 day return policy and ask the networks to match it? How about LG and Samsung? Nokia don't want to lose market share; their latest phones suck, so they can't afford to drop further behind.

I'll be interested to see developments, as a marketwide 30 day "no quibble" return policy would be good for customers but bad for MissKeith's already shrinking commission!!

I guess the answer would be if other manufacturers were shown to have issued a phone with a known design fault then one would hope that they would offer a similar "generous" returns policy.

But it's not down to the manufacturer to decide that, it's down to the networks and retailers who sell them. This is why this iPhone 4 fiasco is causing so many issues, Apple have promised something that the networks find it difficult to deliver.

I've stated before that when Sony Ericsson released the Satio and realised there was a huge issue with them, they recalled all the ones still on sale and offered customers experiencing problems an exchange to the newer version.

Apple are extremely arrogant. They've caused a mess and refuse to clean it up themselves.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

I couldn't agree more. Apple have hung the networks and resellers out to dry. Unfortunately, it is the consumer, though, that is actually suffering (for want of a better word) at the moment. Not forgetting, of course, people like you who have to handle their complaints.

If I was to change my Iphone4 for an other model, would i get some sort of refund or credit on my line rental?

don't for get that the cost of the monthly tariff is also used to part subsidise the cost of the Iphone?

Just called orange and they are putting it all on apple.

I have had mine more than 7 days so I hung out to dry !!

I have 32gb and paid a few quid upfront for it and they just say phone apple once they have the phone they tell us will can talk through your options with regard to canceling the contract or having another phone.

They tell me as for lost air time and the cash i paid up front talk to apple.

I am very disapointed with orange!!
  • O2's website now says they're allowing returns of the iphone4 until 6th August. (see - o2 website - sorry, won't allow me to post links )

I have been trying to return the phone to phones4u for the past week, and met with constant passing from pillar to post between phones4u csr agents, and even agressivness from phones4u staff in-store - I spoke to them today by phone, and they told me, if O2 agree we can terminate the contract, then we can process this return.

I insitsted that they then get o2 on a conference call with me, so we had the o2 agent, the phones4u agent and me. O2 confirmed that they have no problem ending the contract if phones4u want to initiate that, phones4u then said they don't want to, the o2 agent suggested ended it on good will - at which point the phones4u agent terminated the call with the o2 agent!!! !!!!!!?!

I was then told they won't do it until o2 officially say its ok.

Does anyone think the above link will be sufficient to get phones4u to cancel this contract?

Any help greatly appreciated as I'm pulling my hair out with phones4u - I have o2 saying its ok, I have apple saying its ok - yes phones4u are not playing ball :(

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave.

Does that statement from O2 mean that you can return the iphone, but have to echange it for another phone, receiving any difference in up front costs?

    The O2 statement in full...

    Friday 23 July

We have an iPhone 4 update to share with you. Thanks again for bearing with us while we worked out the new process with Apple.

    iPhone 4 Bumpers and cases
    • Apple has announced its iPhone 4 Case Program and you can find out more about it here. It tells you how to get a free Bumper or case from Apple. It also tells you how to get a refund directly from Apple, even if you bought your genuine Apple iPhone 4 Bumper from O2.
    • If you've already spotted the link on Apple's US site and have downloaded the app, you should go to Apple's UK site to read about Apple's offer and their UK terms and conditions here.
    • If you've bought a Bumper or case from us (whether or not it's made by Apple) and want to return it to O2, our usual 14 day return policy applies.

    iPhone 4 returns
    • Apple has restated its iPhone 4 return policy on their website. You can find more information here.
    • You can return your iPhone 4 to Apple, or you are welcome to return it to an O2 shop. Make sure you bring your proof of purchase and the original packaging.
    • For a limited time, we are extending our change of mind policy for iPhone 4. If you have bought iPhone 4 from us since it became available on Thursday 24 June and have changed your mind, you can return it to one of our shops before we close on Friday 6 August.
    • If you're not happy with your iPhone 4, you can return it for any other phone in our range straight away (as long as we have it in stock) and we'll give you a micro sim adapter if you need one. If your new phone costs less than the iPhone 4, we'll refund the difference.
    • From Saturday 7 August, all iPhone 4 purchases will be subject to our usual returns policy.
To me, the whole system is pretty straight forward and self-explanatory. I have been one of the networks' biggest critics over this but I have to say that O2 - albeit with much delay - seem to have come up with the goods. The pressure will now be on the other networks and the resellers to match what O2 have said they willl do.

  • I have spoken to O2 and it all seems pretty straightforward. They said as I did not upgrade from my last contract, I had a simplicity 1 month roilling contract, I can cancel my current 2 year iphone4 contract and go back to Simplicity. Then just wait for them to fix the iphone 4. I think it's odd that they are not releasing the white version now until later in the year, maybe they are fixing them:)
Well done O2. I stayed with them becuase I like their customer service. Good choice me.
