UK carriers response to Apples iphone 4 refund announcement

Correct for the phone. As I said under the SOGA you should be able to return the handset for a full refund, replacement or repair. You should also note that under the SOGA it's the retailers choice to make, NOT yours. They could replace it with another phone of the same make and model, although in this case that may not be much use.

Good Job ( excuse the pun ), I didn't buy an iphone. I think being a fashion victim has saved me a few bob. I'll stick with my monthly sim only and a cheapo 5800
I shall pass the news back to the poor sod lumbered with a cored Apple product .0 -
Still Stalling.

We’re going to be open with you: we said on Monday that we needed time to work out details with Apple and this work is continuing. We appreciate that no one likes to wait, but we ask that you be patient for just a bit longer.
Bumpers and cases- Apple will announce its plan for providing free bumpers to iPhone 4 owners soon. We will post a link on this web page when we have it.
iPhone 4 returns- We’re still working on the plans for how this new Apple process will work for our customers.
Where does that leave us who want to return it after having lots of calls missed and or sent to answerphone and terrible signal quality, if Apple are saying 30 days why are O2 refusing, I called them today and they will not refund me at all.0 -

I don't feel the need to justify myself through my choice of phone (!) but the iPhone 4 design clearly gets a better signal than internal antenna, at the cost of attenuation if you hold it in one place. Not flawed, just a design decision to allow a thinner phone, bigger battery and to get a connection where other phones can't get a signal. Still good luck in your search for a hero in "genuine authority" to stand up for your rights....assuming you do actually own an iPhone 4? If not I'm a bit confused about why you're so upset. Calm down, and enjoy whichever phone you actually own.
I'm perfectly calm and was at the time of the post. Don't patronise me. If you were one of the people affected I have no doubt your attitude would be totally different from the "I'm alright, Jack" one displayed here.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

To each his own, as I said Mines probably a better reception than any phone I've had before.0 -

What I can't get my head around is that Apple continue to sell the iPhone 4 with its known issue and people are still happy to buy it. I know it's not quite the same thing (as there's no safety issue) but it would've been like Toyota saying, yes, we know there's an issue with the accelerator jamming on some of our vehicles but for the next three months we're going to fit all our cars with bigger airbags.
In reality that has always been the case, good as they are, they are not perfect, but folks put up with some shortcomings as the device may make it up in other ways.
The issue is not going to affect all owners , so for those that it does and they wish to can obtain a refund, the ones that are content with the device as it is, can continue enjoying their purchase. :beer:0 -
They bar the SIM not the phone. Phones are only blacklisted if reported stolen.
Incorrect. If a phone is reported lost/stolen or is deemed BER (Beyond Economical Repair) it will be blacklisted. Also, I know from personal experience that they DO blacklist the phone if you fail to pay your bills. Don't take my word for it, call Orange and ask them

Lost stolen you can understand, BER if replaced is probably because the thing is replaced so the "old" one becomes the property of the insurance co. But for not paying bills they should not, it's the contract side thats at fault not the phone, as mentioned earlier the phone becomes yours at time of purchase. (thats one upside to the two contracts on a mobile contract issue)0 -

Oh dear, you really are getting worked up about this for some reason, even though you don't seem to own an iPhone. Instead of spreading fear and uncertainty about this phone, why not save your comments for things you actually have experience of? Several people in this thread who actually own iPhone 4s are reporting better (not worse) signal than on other phones. Someone who sells them has not had a single return because of reception problems. All new gadgets will have teething problems-(the problems with the display or proximity sensor for instance) and Apple's customer service is good at fixing or replacing their products when there are problems. I'm not sure that hysterical comments based on hearsay from people who don't own the device in question are helpful for people thinking about buying one. Perhaps you could just move on and find something else to comment on?:)0 -

You have hit the nail on the head, far too much hysteria over what is essentially a non-issue. And most of it is coming from people who don't own an iPhone and have no intention of buying one. I do wish they would stop this scaremongering over a product that they by their own admission have no experience with,0 -

I'd suggest it is coming from the media, both tech and non tech. When other phones have issues it rarely hits the news, but when it was the iPhone 4, it was in the running order on all news channels. Not helped by Apples publicity disaster at the start with the don't hold it that way, granted.0
