disabled and parents parking
Comments

There have been several comments along the lines of;
"What did people do before P&C spaces were introduced"
Without meaning to sound rude, what did disabled people do before the disabled spaces were introduced? It's been mentioned that it's essential to have wider spaces so can we assume they never went out because they were unable to park and get out of the car.
Where did we park before carparks?

Next to the disabled bays? Are you mad woman!!!! Round here the badge holder would be out in an instant, lift the 3 bags and whup them into the back of their car before the social could turn their camcorder on.sarahg1969 wrote: »Or leave the trolley where it was and go and get the car?0 -
How about we just ban kids from supermarkets
That would solve all these parents "needing" larger spaces so close to the shop.
And it would solve me wanting to shout at them to keep their brats under control when they run into me or elbow me or almost make me trip up because apparently their parents havent taught them manners or to watch where they're going. There is no need for your kids to be running around, they have seats in the trolley for a reason, use it please.
Of course not all kids are like that. There is perhaps 1 kid out of 20 who has actually been brought up to behave when in public and respect other people etc.
24 hour supermarkets. Gotta love them. Midnight shopping with no kids, no ignorant people and best of all, no lazy asses complaining that they need to walk an extra 20 ft to get to the store.

ok penatly notices then, whatever you want to call them. Thats not my problem here anyway.
Im not bothered about the fines/penalties.
Its the fact that someone who has more dedicated spaces to use (where there are lots available at all times) has opted to use the last P&C spot when very few are available at all timesYou can't beat an egg.........................NO WAIT!0 -

I certainly wouldn't let my parents park in a disabled bay if we didn't have the blue badge and they wouldn't feel right to anyway. In that situation they would park in a P&C bay to give me the needed space. Not exactly the best of situations but better than having to come back another day instead. It's easy enough to forget a blue badge/for the badge to be in a different car after all. Or a person may be waiting on a blue badge in the mean time.
MY posting relates to those with a blue badge. You can't beat an egg.........................NO WAIT!0 -
You didn't say that the abundance of disabled bays were free. I'm not a mind reader so assumed (Now I realise wrongly) that all the disabled bays were taken up.
I can't see the point if you have a blue badge and need the extra space why someone would use a P&C rather than a space designed for them that's free.
thanks for noticing. I went on to clarify afterwards.atomicsheep wrote: »nothing wrong with that. Its when im scavenging for a P&C spot and there are (aways) disabled bays free, when a disabled driver comes along and nabs the last P&C spot.
I then look over to the disabled bays all lined up nice and empty
But the thread has become rather long so I appreciate that people cannot read the whole thing.

We should ban disabled persons too, save on them needing their spaces too..... come to think of it, we can all have a medical on the way into the shop. Athletes only perhaps? heh!
Still trying to convince the missus to do online shopping!

As the thread has become long and people may skip to the last page I'll clarify some points again.
I'm talking about my situation that im often up against on a weekly basis.
Driving around for a P&C spot as there is not enough space to get out of the car in the normal spots in my ASDA car park (tight spots).
There are ALWAYS (when im there) free disabled bays in abundance not just in ASDA but other supermarkets too.
What often happens then is a blue badge holder will opt out of using the disabled spot and use the only P&C parking left.
My question then is why? I cant think of any reason why but someone here may know?
also to clarify and ive not changed anything previously said here:
I am not disabled - dont claim to be
"having a child is not a disability" - I dont disagree with this and yet people keep raising it.
I dont claim to have a legal right to park anywhere
I dont claim that disabled persons dont need the extra space (which is what some people have suggested that this is what im saying)
I accept that disabled persons need the P&C spots when disabled bays are full.
Some are asking why i need the P&C space. This is nothing to do with what im questioning. But in response :
The space was created for parents with children, so why should i not use it??
It was created for a purpose which people abuse. You can't beat an egg.........................NO WAIT!0 -
Disabled people cant have kids too? o.O
Well there are many reasons they may use a parent and child spot rather than disabled, As already said, maybe they forgot their blue badge, maybe they dont have one yet, maybe its someone else who has the car so isnt entitled to use it, maybe they dont like people staring at them to see if they have a genuine disability or whether they're one of the tosspots who just pretend to have one in order to get a free ride. Maybe they can get in and out the car ok and were leaving the disabled spaces for those more in need.
But, at the end of the day, blue badge holders can park in any space. Just because they have a blue badge does not mean they can only park in disabled bays. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I have also noticed recently in some shops that the P&C spaces are nearer to the door than the disabled spaces. What the heck is that all about?
Statistically, it's more likely that your customer is going to be a parent, than disabled. Supermarkets supply these places to encourage trade. In fact, P&C parking is a supermarket invention designed solely to capture, from other supermarkets, the largest possible share of their biggest demographic - women with small children.
