The other question - as we still need to think of people who will buy it after us - is, would it be useful to other people and would they see it as a useful addition to their bathroom?

I don't think there's any point in even thinking about that aspect tbh. As you can see from the replies here, some will like it, some wont. It's a personal choice thing with no right or wrong answer.

If someone likes your house, they're not going to be put off buying it just because it had a bidet and equally they are not going to opt to buy it just because it has one, I don't think a bidet would really be a specific on anyone's 'want' or 'don't want' list. A shower or an en suite, yes, but not a bidet. So I don't see the point of not putting one in especially since your husband wants one.

If you knew my husband and gadgets - 'I want one of those' is a favourite phrase of his - which inevitably end up quickly replaced by the 'new' version, you wouldn't have put that comment

We inherited one in our bathroom when we bought our house. It is a waste of space for us (small bathroom) and only used maybe twice a year or so to wash our feet instead of using the bath.

Last thing I would install in the bathroom!

So for me it is a big NO!

Like Never enough I was converted while living abroad (and Brit temperatures are supposed to be rising.) Agree with Aliasojo, but there can be fads and fashions, so why not flick through a couple of home improvement mags while shopping? :)

Don't even think about it! I could not bear to think of NOT having a bidet. In Europe almost every house has one. Go for it

Personally, I reckon it would depend on the size of the bathroom. If you've got a big room with room for a bath, separate shower and still have plenty of room for the bidet, then why not, but if you have to shoe-horn it in, or lose a shower to get it in, then I'd say it's a mistake. Could you negotiate on the gadget front with your other half? Personally, I'd be more attracted by a bathroom with a nice run of fitted units round the walls with the cistern and vanity unit all of a piece, with lots of storage space for clutter - maybe he could be persuaded to view that kind of thing as gadgets?

I wouldn't even consider having one. I always have a pack of moist toilet tissues in the bathroom and use these if I want to 'freshen up'.

Although it wouldn't put me off buying a house with a bidet I would look at the bathroom and think it needs ripping out and redoing. I hate bidets.

If you have room for a separate shower cubicle I would go for that first and then if you still have the room to go for twin sinks and then after that I may consider a bidet!
