MSE News: Apple offers iPhone 4 fix and refund

you could just phone your nearest apple store and get an appointment. they'll swap your phone there and then even if you dont have insurance from your bt or orange etc.
i think the photos are great and mine doesnt leave black spaces when i delete photos either.
the more number of pixels doesnt mean better quality. the more pixels just means you can print bigger photos. if you dont print photos then this shouldnt be an issue. its the quality of the sensor which means it akes better photosHi i'm new here...hello everyone,
I have never had an iPhone before and was looking forward to this phone when I purchased it...
It is like we're all saying, dropped calls, loss of signal, I also think the camera is rubbish for a 5mp-very dark pics, and when I delete photos I just get a black space between my photos...
Anyway, I bought a case, no change, I updated the firmware to v4.0.1 as Apple reports said but i would say the problem is worse than ever EVERY call is lost and now I am actually embarrassed to use it...
I got a call from a sales person from where i bought it last week, less than a week old and she said she would give me an exchange, I rang today to speak to her but she is off today and the person I spoke to appeared shocked at the suggestion of me getting an exchange.
I'm on Orange and i am taking it all back tomorrow to the shop (4 u) where I purchased it with a report referencing steve jobs saying people could have a refund and HOPING to get a refund and contract stopped.
I will update you tomorrow with my outcome fingers crossed!0 -

Thank you for the advice...i'm going to need it...
Phones 4 u did not help (the girl in the shop followed protocol though), although they got orange to do a diagnostics check which showed the signal strength was excellent, I asked him to check the bill statements and that would show the calls number listed and how many times I'd rung back and how short the calls were but he wouldn't do it.
Anyway, they would not recind the contract (I rang trading standards who said to use the word recind as oppose to cancel) I will see if Apple shop can help but I never bought the phone from them so I don't hold out much hope there either.
For me I must say this is the most expensive handheld games console I have ever bought.0 -
Everyone waiting to get their hands on the free bumpers, you need to download an app from apps store called "iphone 4 case program". You can then choose between a simple bumper or case to be sent over for free
Says 3-5 weeks so dont expect it to arrive within days.
All issues aside, the iPhone4 is no doubt a fantastic device and personally quite happy with it having used the iPhone right from its first release in the UK..0 -
Hi
I just went today (24/7/10) to my local o2 shop to return my iphone 4 as per the instructions for the new 30 day return period. 14 days return had expired in all fairness (but I thought this new 30 day superceeds this?).
Spoke to o2 customer services over the phone and each time was told I can return the phone and get a refund and my pac code.
Even whilst in the shop, staff say this is not possible, so they phone customer services and they confirm to me that yes, you can return, refund, and get the pac.
In the end, after the shop staff complained that they don't have a way on their system to do it, the CS staff on the phone tells me that shes made a mistake and I can't actually refund the contract, I can only return the phone and get a different phone but I need to pick another 18 month contract.
It took me 2 hours in the store, CS staff over the phone gave me a £10 credit for messing me about.
I still think I was within the correct terms of the new apple and o2 announcement and I would be able return, refund and leave(pac code).
but it simply isn't possbile!
cheers

No the announcement says refund and choose another phone and if its cheaper get a refund
At no point does it say contract will be cancelled, you can have your PAC and go elsewhere
You signed a contract with a provider and they will at some time provide you with a phone that works on that network.
Again shows the fact that a contract with an airtime provider and a phone are two seperate things.
The goods might not work (luckily they do for me) but the provider of the contract just has to offer you something that will work with their service.
Sorry but it's another case of big companies bullying customers especially in the UK.0 -
DarkConvict wrote: »Apple with fix the IPhone problem, but I do not see it been in this model. If your after a new working IPhone. I would return the current IPhone 4G, and then wait for the new version with the fault fixed.
I do not believe it will be easily fixed on existing IPhone4G phones, probably need to wait for a 4GS.
Mine works fine
So to say if you are after a working iPhone is an incorrect statement
Not being unsympathetic to people who MAY be having problems but your statement is incorrect its not 100%0 -

IMHO the response states:
"
For a limited time, we are extending our change of mind policy for iPhone 4. If you have bought iPhone 4 from us since it became available on Thursday 24 June and have changed your mind, you can return it to one of our shops before we close on Friday 6 August. "
goto the 14 day return policy and it states:
"If you change your mind about your purchase
If the product you’ve bought isn’t quite what you wanted, you’ve got up to 14 days to:
1. Swap it for something else (you can only do this once). If you choose a more expensive product, you’ll need to pay the difference.
Or
2. Get your money back
You’ll still have to pay for any service you’ve used (like calls, texts or data, including roaming). We'll charge you for this after you’ve brought the product back.
There are some exceptions to this policy such as gaming consoles and sat navs. Click the 'What products do we sell where our standard returns and repairs policy doesn’t apply?' link below for more details. "
so it does say "get your money back" and also states that you pay for any service you've used (calls etc)0 -
I am gob-smacked, saddened and amazed at how Phones 4 U and Orange can get away with this. If the phone was 'fit for purpose' I would not be complaining. I have never had an iPhone before and it is quite an amazing gadget but in this instance I can not make a call and make it to end of the conversation without being cut off once. I would be quite happy to accept an exchange IF the exchange was a phone proven to work as it should.
I have got no-where in trying to return my phone or having the contract rescinded...to say I am seething is an understatement - these phones are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Letters are being sent to the relevant people where I have pointed out several issues one of which is: You are not following UK law – goods not of satisfactory quality.
@southern guy - May I ask is your phone 16gb? I am wondering if its only 16gb that have the problem or if 32gb as the same issues. and is it an iPhone 4 as oppose to the OS v4.01 on an iPhones 3GS?
I must say...I have had a phone call from an Apple representative from America (I sent some emails via there website). She asked me the questions that have been set out by the tech guys - so they are looking into it and indeed interested in what you say, you could say, they should, which would be correct, but come on...What are they doing for us here in the UK??? If you go back to the place of purchase or network provider and what do I get - not our fault! I got a email from Apple confirming the conversation I had had earlier. She also says she will be in touch next week - fingers crossed0 -

Mine is an iPhone 4 16gb
I had to sync my phone yesterday to update some contacts and software version 4.01 was available.
I downloaded this and everything still seems fine no problems
Perhaps im one of the lucky ones makes a change!!
I also ordered a free bumper on Friday and was told 3 to 5 weeks but have received a despatch email today saying will be with me within 3 days0 -
Just complained to o2 over the apple announcement over the weekend. I was told that I would be called back on Monday and no-one called. However on Tuesday I got a call from the 14 day cancelation dept and they have confirmed to me that I can return my iphone 4 and get my PAC code, and during the time I am deciding what I would like to do I would remain on the iphone 4 tariff until such point I would like to upgrade or leave. Now hows that for a result.0
