Beware Onestop Phone Shop (merged)
Avoid this company like the plague.. why?
Come close and I'll tell you a tale.
I foolishly trusted this company as they're part of the Carphone Warehouse. I got a cashback phone from them.
"Its got 1000min per month" the salesman promissed. I trusted him, coming from such a fine company as the CPW, who I've dealt with for 7 years, and have always found professional.
What he didn't mention, explain, draw attention to .. was that these minutes were only for use after 7pm, i.e. completely useless.
I called him back and he denied everything. He said these were 'off peak minutes'. I don't remember this. However his job was to sell me a phone that was suitable for me, not his sales bonus.
I'm appauled that the CPH is using these kind of scams to sell phones.
To anyone thinking of doing business with the One Stop Phone Shop, do not. Simply avoid them.
I now have to contact all the people I contacted before to change my telephone number, and change it back.
These people do not deserve your money.

For my own peace of mind, I always contact the network provider as soon as I receive the new phone+sim from the retailer.
I would ask the Network Provider to confirm:
-what tariff I'm on
-length of contract
-any additional add-ons I'll be charged
-has direct debit been setup
If there's any discrepancies you can resolve or cancel the contract with the retailer within the cooling off period.0 -
Its past the cooling off period but I've complained to the company, I'll see what happens.0

I am on a similar contract. However I do remember them saying that it was off peak and if I remember correctly when I received the phone there was the documentation saying which tariff you are on. Did you not get any documentation when you received your phone? Or when you placed the order? (I got e-mails to say what I had signed up for)

Be wary dear hearts.. and keep your money safe.
Stay away from this awful scam, which as so far lsot me a whopping £150.
My 12 mo contract came to an end, I thouht about keeping the no, so asked them to send me a PAC code.. they said fine.
I didn't need it in the end, but knew that I'd told them by phone and letter that I wanted my account closed.
I've just found out that they'd kept my account open, as I hadn't used the PAC code, even though the PAC was only valid for a few weeks, and that code would have expired before my account came to a close.
They say that they informed me in a letter that my account would stay open. I don't remember receiving anything like that. Perhaps this was hidden somewhere on a letter I received, I can't tell.
I didn't notice the bank charges, as I'd taken out another contract and had Broadband with them..
Well, I've lost £150 on this scam.. and they're richer.
I'm just warning you to be very careful with this company.
They should have warned me that I would be charged if I didn't use the PAC code, they should have sent a letter making clear the fact that they'd keep my account over.
I asume thousands of people, like me, have been caught out by this scam.. money for CPW, and another honest person ripped off.
BEWARE0 -
Every letter I have received from CPW or its subsidiaries has it clearly stated that no use of the PAC will result in a continuation of the contract. In almost all my dealings, the reps do clearly say the same when asking for a PAC.
I wud advise you to look up what was written in that letter. If it wasn't mentioned, you might be able to stand up with this. But I don't expect much luck as they will blatantly just tell you that their employee will have pointed it out. Give it a shot.0 -
I used to work for one of the big mobile companies who sells through CPW & I always thought they should wear stetsons & spurs as they're some of the biggest cowboys going.
They were always trying to find ways to fleece customers, while I worked with them I had to get 3 of their sales reps & 1 of my staff fired for fraud.
Personally after working with them for 10yrs I wouldn't even let my worst enemy buy from a CPW store.Winnings

You have told us what has happened and I think that is right that we should print our stories but who else have you told. Have you tried reaching the powers to be of CPW, trading standards or even Ofcom. If you have told them you are leaving then that should be that. I know it is too late but it is always advisable to cancel direct debits.Be wary dear hearts.. and keep your money safe.
BEWARE
Dont just fold in to them though. Read their five fundamental rules if you want to have a laugh and see if they actually keep to any of them.0 -
i recieved my pac code the other day
and in the text message they sent it clearly states in block capitals
that "YOU WILL CONTINUE TO RECIEVE MONTHLY BILLS AND CHARGES IF THE PAC CODE IS NOT USED"
so imo thats a warning0 -
Hi
I have every sympathy, they are complete !!!!!!!
We're currently in a battle with CPW as we had an O2 contract with them. Sent them a letter at the end of the 12 months which they say they never recieved then have spent 3 months trying to disconnect. unfortunately we never sent it recorded delivery as I had a contract with them previously but with Virgin and had no problems. After numerous phone calls to their call centre and promises of call backs from managers, which have never happened, and requesting copies of these calls (which they tape) we have received a letter informing us they are sorry to hear of our difficulties with our account but we are still liable for the os balance (even though the phone has never been used,) as they never recieved the letter, neither can they trace the calls?? We even gave them the name of one operative who gave us his direct line. At one point we were told 'no way could the account be cancelled over the phone', then they proceeded to do exactly this - their explanation was the operative filled in a missing letter form - why did this never happen on the other 15 calls?
There is no way they are getting £100 for nothing!!
I have copied OFTEL into the letter and will be sending them CW's response.
We have mobile phone records of calls made to their call centre and have kept a log - to top it all off we never even signed a contract in the first place as it was done over the telephone!
Any words of advice?? I am determined to go all the way with this and sent them a 3 page complaint asking for copies of the calls, listing everything and asking for a reason we never recieved a call back. They didn't answer any of them
Thanks
MrsG
ps sorry if this is long winded - I am just so angry about this!0 -
Because they write that does not ensure its legality over someone's rights. Do you really think that CPW would want to fight this in a court of Law?i recieved my pac code the other day

so imo thats a warning0
