What brilliant news, Ellie:j. You sound so happy that the end is so clearly in sight now. What an achievement:T. You'll be starting the New Year knowing that it really will be a happy one for you:beer:

What a pity that BC have caused so much upset. I've no debts with them (thank goodness) but know from reading the various DMP threads that they are everyone's least favourite company to deal with. Good luck for a happy outcome:beer:

I too am confused about what the various markers on Noddle mean:o. Not sure if the markers on the ones that haven't been defaulted are good or bad. What I do know is that the 5 biggest debts are defaulted and will disappear from my file a few months before the DMP is finally paid off. That's how I read it anyway. As I don't plan to apply for any credit ever again (famous last words eh?;)) the others don't really matter too much.

    Hello CBC,

Yes, I feel happy but I'm sure the last few months will feel looong!

I've just kept going with BC because I didn't want to rock the boat as for a few years we weren't charged any interest and our payments were above the 1% threshold that everyone talks about where interest kicks back in. Now, I have nothing to lose so will push for defaults on both accounts we have. One account now only has £200 or so left to pay but does show AP markers for over 6 years.

I see you are over halfway now, I found this stage felt a bit slow at first but then all of a sudden I could see the debts tumbling quite quickly and I was making noticeable progress with each one. You have achieved a lot in your time on MSE and I can see a different person from when you first arrived here. A stronger, confident CBC...long may it continue:)

    Take care

  • Well, no response from BC regarding my complaint about our accounts AP markers. Noddle and Clearscore don't show any evidence of BC at all but Link shows as Green with one payment?

BC started to apply interest onto the account for a few months before they sold it on so this has also pushed my debt-free date out by a month which I was trying to avoid but as this is our worst time of the year, I have decided to just go with it. I've been trying to put some money away to pay off the last of our DMP in February but this means an additional £400 or so on top of what we are already paying. What's another month in the grand scheme of things? I've learnt not to let money stress me out so a March DFD it is:o

I've cracked open my tin of pound coins that I have been saving towards Christmas and have a total of £878 for the year. This helps keep us going through the winter months and takes no effort to save. I will keep this habit going once I have paid off all my debts as it's a good habit to have.

I can't wait to start saving money on a bigger scale once the last payments to our debt have gone. For most of our DMP I have paid £663 per month out of my salary and it feels the equivalent of two mortgages a month coming out of my wages:(

I have so many plans once I am debt-free and I do find my mind wandering off thinking about what I am going to do. A DMP was my worst nightmare in the beginning but now I realise it has brought me freedom to enjoy the rest of my life. Being in debt has taught me some valuable lessons, lessons I will keep with me for the rest of my life.

    Take care

  • Hi Ellie,

I have just spent the last couple of hours reading through your diary. You are an absolute inspiration!

You have shown such strength, determination and resilience - I am literally sat in tears so excited for a stranger on the internet to become debt free and move on to new pastures.

Might be able to help with BC - phone and tell them that you are making an official complaint. Tell them you expect an acknowledgement in writing within 5 days and a resolution within 8 weeks or you are going to take it to the ombudsman. It costs them £550 each time a person goes to the Ombudsman (legitimate complaint or otherwise) so it's in their interest to resolve the complaint without you going to them.

I will be keeping up to date on your diary, I cannot tell you how much of an inspiration reading your diary has been - you are amazing.

Thank you so much Laura, now you have me in tears:o

It has been tough sometimes but it is something that I am so grateful for. It has taught me so much and a situation that I thought I would never be free from is almost over.

Thanks for the information on BC too. This is something I intend to pursue:)

December 2016...we are now under 2K:) £1,978 to be precise and our debt-free date will be March 2017. I was a little disappointed that it will be a month longer now but as I have said before, what's a month in the grand scheme of things?

Christmas is all budgeted for and I have already bought the majority of my gifts for everyone. I've even started putting my ££'s away for next Christmas (how organised is that?)

I do try not to wish my life away for the next few months as there are things in my life I wish would just stand still (my parents are elderly and not in the best of health) but I do so want to be finally free of debt.:D

    Take care
