That's wonderful, Ellie:T. No wonder you're feeling giddy:rotfl:
It's fantastic to be able to count the time left in months but when it gets down to weeks (and only 8 at that) it must be mind-blowing.
Can't wait for your update next month, you'll be really giddy by then and so will we on your behalf_party_:dance:0 -
Thank you for all your lovely comments and yes, the finish line is in sight...who would have thought it in July 2010:o
I usually set my goals for the coming year and for 2017 they are going to be slightly different:
*Pay the remainder of our debt by March 2017
*From April onwards I want to move at least half of the monthly payment that I was making to SC into a savings account.
*Spruce up the house and replace some of the things that are so worn (you would not believe how threadbare some of our bedding is:o)
*Draw up a plan for what happens next - becoming debt-free has dominated my life for over 6 years, I will continue to live within my means but the focus will change. I think rather than debt-busting, I will put my energy into saving:cool:
*Book a holiday:eek: ...am I really writing that??? I intend to go and have a look around at properties but not until later in the year.
*Budget for Christmas using my usual £2 method.
...and I almost forgot - I will reach that elusive £1,000 emergency fund!
...but for now, it's January and our worst period of the year moneywise. The freezer is stocked up well and I don't have to go shopping for anything other than essentials.
I find myself reflecting on the last years whilst on our DMP and even though it has been hard and sometimes seemed impossible, it has been the best thing that could have possibly happened for us. I really didn't want to go onto a DMP but now with hindsight it means that I have choices for the future, I don't have a feeling of dread as I move towards retirement and I have much to look forward to:)
Take care everyone and keep going with your own dreams for the day you will be debt-free, it will come and you too will be as excited as I am;)

Hello Boxofpaws,
It's been a long time coming and at times seemed that it would never end but I have never waivered that it would all be worth it in the end.
I have a bright future without the burden of debt to look forward to;)
It just takes determination and a belief that you can reach your goals and anything is possible.
I wish you well with your own battle with debt, it won't always be easy but the rewards are worth the fight:)
Take care
