  • Hi Ellie and friends I am so sorry to hear about your job and just wanted to wish you good luck and hope your interview went well today.
I just popped in to say (like all the others) I have read and found your diary comforting and inspirational in that I too am about to step off the cliff edge into dmp land. For ages (too long) I have known we were drowning but like you all struggled on desperately trying to hold it all together when I truly should have got my head out the sand and thrown the towel in. You have given me hope and although I am still very scared to press the accept button on the CCCS site I know this is what I have to do and will do knowing I am really am not alone. Thank you so much. EB

  • Hi Easterbuuny

I too was scared to press that button but when I eventually did a big weight seem to lift off my shoulders. I know you are scared but once you have done this hopefully things will get better.

It hasnt been as bad as I first thought the occasional phone call and a few stroppy letters, but they cant have what you havnt got.

    Keep strong Jackiexxx
  • Thanks for your support Jackie - I pressed the button last night and funnily enough I didnt explode or alarms go off or the ground open up to swallow me (in my head they did lol :o) but I know now I have to face this and I will! I also made OH read Saltnvinegars post last night and he too is now on board. You are all such lovely people on this board just trying to survive and make it work. None of us want to be here but for whatever reason we are, we are trying - why cant the predators understand that

I will continue to read your progress Ellie and have fingers crossed for good news about your interview. Take care all - onwards and upwards

  • Hi Easterbunny,

I'm glad that my diary has helped you:) Yes, a dmp is very scary to start with but with help from this forum and all the people on here you do get through it. I have to say it has been a massive step for me to take but I have no regrets so far. I feel so much better in myself and I'm not continually stressing and worrying bout how I'm going to pay the next bill.

Do keep posting, we all try to keep each others spirits up when we feel down and I know that without this forum I would never have plucked up the courage to go through with the DMP

    Good Luck
    Ellie xx
  • Getting a few calls from Barclaycard which is strange as they wrote to say that they would hold the account for 30 days whilst the dmp is being set up (perhaps 30 days is up?)

Apart from that everything is quiet:o

I've just saved us £238 a year on our home insurance on a comparison website so I'm well chuffed (told you this MSE mularky is working!)

My interview went really well, so should know by next week at the latest. Just had another call from an agency regarding a job so perhaps things are finally looking up;)

Not much else happening at the minute but now enjoying the time off as it looks like I might well be employed again soon - Oh well! no rest for the wicked!

  • Hi Ellie - being naughty as at work - but just wanted to thank you for reply and support. Its good to know you are starting to see the wood for trees with it all. Makes me feel better knowing you do come out the other side. The phonecalls bit is the thing I am dreading the most and if they phone me at work because that would be so difficult but I guess I will deal with it as it happens - just like you have! One day at a time .... Really hope things are starting to look up for you on the job front. Thanks again - take care. EB

  • Hi Easterbunny,

One tip that I used was to go onto each of my accounts online and remove as many phone numbers as I could (particulary the work ones) and when I sent my token payments I requested contact in writing only. Obviously, some have totally ignored that and ring me at home but as far as I know they haven't rung work.

  • Hi Ellie - thanks for the tip - funnily enough I thought of that too today. Was bit difficult as some wouldnt accept blanks so made some silly obscure number instead! I have had email acknowledging my application for DMP today and waiting for them to email me what I need to do next. Feeling strangley chilled out at the moment and relieved but I know this is the calm before the storm. Thanks again for all your help. Take care. EB x

  • Hi Easterbunny,

Just take it one day at a time and you will be fine. It is amazing how chilled you do feel once you have made the decision and accepted that you have no other alternative. I am finding that I am now becoming more determined to get rid of this debt and certainly do not want any more.

I have also found that I have more money than I had previously, which takes some getting used to. Previously we were throwing everything at debt but now with our budget we do have money for everyday essentials which still feels wrong at the moment but I am coming round to the idea:)

The telephone calls are a nuisance in the first few weeks but we have found that they died off once the CCCS had got involved. We are still getting some but just don't answer them.

I have to say that at the moment I am so glad that I have gone down the DMP route and I really do feel like my old self again and not the nervous wreck that I was turning into:o

  • More phone calls from recruitment agencies so I'm not worrying about the lack of job at the moment and feel quite optimistic that there will be something out there. One agency has mentioned contracting which would mean working for 3 months to earn my years salary, now that is very tempting;)

Couple of phone calls from preditors and one p!£$ed off daughter who is obviously fed up of not getting any answer when she rings from work (withheld) so leaves messages on the answer machine to that effect... oops!

We are going shopping today to buy some wallpaper and some paint, we haven't been able to afford to decorate for so long due to CC payments. This is so exciting! We haven't got a lot to spend but at least we can brighten up the house:o

OH is not working, rain stopped play!
