Would you think i was mad if i told you all that last December 25th & 26th I was actually placing online orders for Christmas presents for Christmas 2010?

I knew this was going to be a tough year financially, even tougher than usual and i wanted to start present buying early. Now i have Chirstmas 2010 almost done and dusted with regard to pesents. It's really such a relief. Everything i have bought has been at least half price, some things had 70% off the marked price.

In addition to this i am making hampers filled with homemade jams and chutneys to give as gifts also.

Taplady, sorry to read about your sons having to look for work in the current employment climate. Hope they get fixed up with something soon.

Remember if you decide to use purple spray - as it comes out purple it might stain. We have all only used it outside and I can't remember getting it on fabric so not sure

Might be a problem on your carpets and floors, which would definately not be MS :eek::eek:

PS. Your dog is a heck of a lot more likely to lick his wounds than a horse, so make sure that he cannot harm himself with the ingredients!!
  • Sorry to hear about your doggie 365, hope he's feeling better soon. I picked up my Child Benefit this morning and was all set to go and get the school shoes. This can be quite expensive as I insist on getting them 'good' shoes (much to the disgust of eldest DD!!) However, eldest who has jet-black hair decided to dye her her Blonde!!! She looks like a tiger with pure blonde roots, orange and then reddish stripes!! Am so mad. Made her strip the beds and put them into wash, hang them up and hoover the stairs before I would bring her to hairdresser. She's there now looking a bit dejected, especially as the hairdresser killed herself laughing!!! God knows how much it's gonna cost as the girl has had to mix 3 dyes together to get a colour to try and cover it all!! She may just get her wish and get a pair of black 4.00 shoes from Primark!!

....Try bathing in saline to clean them (1 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 1 pint boiled, cooled water). Or 3 parts water and 1 part cider vinegar. Vinegar is also supposed to help heal wounds and prevent infection....How would you treat a child if they had fallen and grazed their knee?

I offer this information on the proviso that I am not a vet or an animal nurse, just a bog-standard dog owner.

Give him a cuddle from me, poor thing.
All these years I thought I was dead common cuz I use salt water for almost everything & all the time I could have been extolling the virtue of saline :p That's interesting about the vinegar too.
Me muvva's hairdresser had a 22 year old cat who had only been to get their bits done; a reduced dose of child's cough syrup or pain relief appeared to cover all other ailments. Not being a pet owner until five years ago, I cannot pass judgement, but we do treat Pup--& everyone else come to that!--with saline [ cheeky-smiley-034.gif ] in the first instance.

I'd be wary too with a dog as he will lick his paws constantly. I'd maybe stick to salt water now & again and keep his tongue away from it until it dries. Play with him and tickle him lol
Guess who else is also planning jam for xmas hampers :):)

Perhaps we need to find a better way to phrase this statement, as all manner of connotations could be misconstrued :rotfl:

Have a feeling that an expense is on it's way. Took DS and the dog for a long walk/bike ride along the canal. Dog has managed to rip both front pads on his paws. Not ripped as such but look like blisters do after they have popped. He is looking incredibly sorry for himself. I am loathe to take him to the vet as it will be soooooo expensive. I've looked it up online and it just says keep them clean/dry and they will heal themselves. Anyone had any experience of this??? I don't want anyone to think I'm a meanie but I just can't afford a £50 vets bill if all they are going to say to me is....keep it clean and dry!!!

My son has done a btec national diploma in animal management, so thats as qualified as the following advice gets, but it works on his rabbits;)

Sudocrem maybe worth keeping in the home, yes the same stuff that is used for nappy rash.
They used it on all the animals on the college farm/zoo for bites/rashes/wounds/sore paws etc works well on humans too.

Keep it clean and dry sounds fine, a lot of the time animals are like us and heal ok without intervention.
