We're all entitled to a good vent, Tracy, it helps to keep us sane ;)
It does sound like he was a little selfish, it also sounds as though he realises that now and wants to make amends. Anyway, I'm glad you sound a little more cheerful now.

I have been a good girl today - we went to Ikea and Lakeland and we spent less than £10 :) I needed some 'nice' preserving jars to make gifts and Ikea is the cheapest place. Luckily it's in the city centre and it's always quiet, it's like 'ghost Ikea'. I am feeling very virtuous as we only bought the jars we needed. Not so much as a Dime bar was purchased otherwise :D

Then we went to Lakeland which is a little further out because do you remember I got that £100 voucher? We decided that we really need to cut down on our electricity use. We're not allowed to install a gas cooker here and you can see the numbers spinning round on the meter whenever we cook. So we decided it might be an idea to get something using the vouchers. But I don't really want to buy something that doesn't suit us and there are so many different cookers now. Remoska, Intellichef, Wonder Cooker, that Jamie Oliver thing, Halogen cookers... I can't make out which would suit us best, but everyone who has any of them seems almost evangelical about how great they are. I thought that going and having a look at them might help, but did it buttons!
So I've not decided anything yet, but OH decided that we needed some liquorice. I nearly bought the most adorable pudding basin but I restrained myself :A I'm sure I'll find a less adorable one in the charity shop for less than £4!

Awww poor Taplady and your son :grouphug: Make sure he gets some advice from the DFW board, even if he's only out of work a short while it can save him from things getting sticky later.

Hope he can get something else as he's got a car to run(expensive insurance) and an overdraft as well as a few bills from when he had his own flat. He gave it up a month ago and moved hom thangoodness he did as thats onew less worry.

Thanks for this ginnyknit, I'm taking 4 DGC to a caravan in Morecambe for a week in Aug, can't wait! (Other than no mums and dads telling us what we can and can't do ;)) I'm looking forward to the things we don't have down here in the Home Counties - bargain stores, proper markets not 'antique and curio' ones, friendly people with time to be polite, and lots of free things to for families. I've worked out it'll cost approx half of what we'd pay for a south coast resort :j

Shirley Goode definitely got it right, if I was in a position to move I'd consider it seriously myself

My mum lives in Morecambe and i agree with everything that is said. I love it there, the views are spectacular, good shops, smashing folk and the market is brill:D

I came on here to make my first post because I came very close to being made redundant on Thurs. Just got the company structure charts through and I definately have a job and am so relieved! Feel guilty to think this because 49 of my colleagues have not been so lucky. Was really worried about how we would manage. I'm the main bread winner - there's no way my oh could have made up for the shortfall (I put 2/3s of our household outgoings into the joint account) we've been paying off our debts for the last couple of years which thankfully are almost gone, but because of this we have no savings to act as a safety net. Frightening position - I really feel for everyone out there who hasn't been so lucky x

My Dad and most of our colleagues are facing redundancy with massively reduced redundancy packages, and I finally understand why he is so frugal. He's the only one who doesn't have a mortgage and some of his friends admit they will have their homes repossessed, but our family will be okay as he's prepared for sudden things like this. I complained when I was younger that our house was small, in a bad area, far from my friends etc but now I'm so grateful because we will actually have a home still unlike some people!
