Primrose, LOL at your spider story - that's just the sort of thing that would happen to me! :rotfl:

Alarm finally fixed after 2.5 hours trying various combinations of fixes and fiddles, and setting the alarm off periodically (sorry neighbours!) :o
Turns out it was some fault in the keypad, plus something not quite connected somewhere (and that was making the keypad fault impossible to detect!) The keypad's the third one to be sent back to the manufacturer now, how rubbish

Haven't got anywhere near as much work done as I should have, what with all the disruption, plus my internet connection decided to play silly b*ggers and I've only just managed to get it all reconnected.

Feeling a bit chilly, think I may have to put my oil-filled radiator on...

Oh darn it, I've just remembered that I'm sort of peppers to go in my chilli....suppose I'd better nip out at some point. Grrrr!

  • It feels a little like national have a go at Ceridwen day today. We're a broad church, we don't all have to agree, it's nice to see people with passion about the place. The thread has wandered off topic on a number of occasions yet only one poster is held up for this, not fair. Just because a viewpoint isn't popular doesn't mean it shouldn't be aired.

Well said - Ive enjoyed everyones opinion on university and child benefit

Which is, I believe, what I have just done  - I made an observation (apparently not a popular one) - it's because of my personality type SWYT ;):D.

I agree, this thread has wandered off topic many, many times - and a board guide has also had to remind us of this on occasions.

My comment was just a general observation, not directed at you.

So, back to topic - it's tough now, and will be getting tougher for families, students, retired people, single people, married people - in fact, all of us are going to have to do some belt tightening! I cope by trying very hard to stick to a strict budget but giving myself a challenge by learning to cook and grow edible things, and hunt for bargain presents for birthdays and the C word. I get satisfaction from doing a demanding but interesting job with people I get on well with. I get satisfaction on spending time with family or just shoving my nose in a good library book. Or following TV programmes, and trying to resist throwing a brick at the screen when I see things that wind me up, such as the contestants on the Apprentice last night making sausages and flogging them for something like twice the price you would pay in the shops.....

The local H & B shop is one of my latest finds, and is the first place I look now for household supplies plus storecupboard grocery items.

Flowertotmum - you can buy cheaper biscuits than home made, but you compromise on quality. Take a pack of cheapo digestive biscuits - ok for everyday nibbling or to use as a base for cheesecake, but the ingredients list is not for the faint hearted. A batch of home made cookies/shortbread/gingernuts etc will soon disappear, but you probably need to eat less of them because they are more satisfying - and you know what's in them!

Ang I'm so glad i didn't offend you, reading back i was really nasty to you. Please accept my apologies.

Yes it like that here, i'm qute close to you, were in the north east to, in Middlesbrough. Were a dying industrial area, so many people here are in low paid menial / manual jobs,i.e my partner the plumber, that's its depressing.
Nothing is looking up where we are, i moved away, well all of 3 miles, but it feels like a million miles away form the negative attitude of where i used to live. So i'm already one rung up the ladder! That's why i'm trying to get out of debt now so i can pay for an education for them. Or at least if they need money to certificates like Offshore Survival then i want to be pay for them to do it.
But at the same time i''m teaching my boys about money, cooking, living debt free etc so hopefully that combined with the above will help them become successful and happy in their lives.

:rotfl:at DD, i hates maths, but my eldest son reads constantly and is amazing at maths. My youngest loves reading too, both of them love the library and scouring charity shops for books. We have far too many, our friends say we should set up our own library with the amount we have :o.

I wasn't meaning to have a go at Ceridwen, in fact i quite enjoy debating / agreeing with her.Its funs, and if i have offended her in anyway then i sincerely apologise.
I was just protesting about plumbers earning loads, when in reality most of them don't.

As for back on topic, just picked about 10 ripe red and yellow tom's form the yard :T:T and paid argos whoo hooo one debt down!!!
