Evening all, and what a grim day it's been! Couldn't believe it when I looked at the rainfall radar earlier and saw that virtually the whole of Britain was blue/green/yellow!

I really need to buy some new shoes for work - my current ones are so comfy but the soles have worn through and the stitching is starting to unravel, so they leak really badly - past mending I'm sure. I'd like to get some little ankle boots as I thought they'd be cosier in winter, but haven't seen any I like yet. Saw some in New Look for £20, and I can buy them with survey vouchers, but they're not leather and I'm not that keen on synthetic materials for shoes :o

Feeling a bit down in the dumps this evening, TBH. Really busy at work, and also have got so much work to do for my professional review, feel a bit overwhelmed and stressed. Plus the house is a complete mess - DH is helping out to a certain extent by doing all the cooking, but he rarely does any cleaning "off his own back" - I have to ask, which makes me feel bad, or like he's doing me a favour. And then there's the garden, which is in an embarrassing state of jungle-ness! And the million other things on my to-do list such as sorting out a new mortgage deal, switching energy supplier, lining the curtains for winter, food-planning, money saving, etc etc etc. I've also been trying to go to the gym regularly so that I keep fit physically and mentally! But there's just not enough hours in the day at the moment

DH and I had a bit of a chat just now and I explained that for the next 6 months I'm going to be seriously busy working, and that I needed him to do a bit more than his fair share of the house chores during that time. I think he took it on board....although I think I can hear the Playstation going so he's obviously relaxing at the moment...!

Sorry for the rant, it's been a long week!

Stay warm and dry, peeps! :D

Go and run yourself a nice warm bath and add some bubble bath.
    Light a scented candle.
Get some soothing music on the go.
Pour yourself a large glass of your favourite wine.
Get into that bath and relax your socks off for half and hour or so.
    You deserve it!!!:)

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

awwwwwww BB - I agree with parsonswife, take some time out for yourself to relax. and if life at work is going to be really busy for 6 months you really need to take good care of yourself :)

I had a long soak in a hot bubbly bath earlier... Its now wine o'clock so I shall be pouring myself a glass (or two) and chilling in front of the TV. No kiddies til sunday (:() so will have a lie in tomorrow too.

Hope everyone is having a stress free evening (as far as possible).

    Happy Weekend peeps :)

Hmmm! Belly pork..stuffed belly pork - even better :)
Try a chopped apple mixed in with the stuffing mix - its helps keep it moist and its slight acidity makes a nice contrast to the richness of the pork :)

..hurrying away to add belly pork to the market shopping list!

  • On the subject of teaching kids to cook in school, has anyone been watching Jamies American Food Revolution. I was appauled at what they feed their primary kids for breakfast and lunch !!

Ive really enjoyed watching it, cant believe they class 'fries' as a vegetable! x

  • My feet got soaked earlier taking little one out. I really need new trainers but refuse to pay more than £30 just for a name. I want them to be proper sport trainers for anything over that price & I don't need that for just walking in and out of town. Am crossing my fingers that our local Lidl will have the colours & sizes I want in stock as they are doing running trainers this coming week according to their catalogue & they are only £12.99.

When it comes to colds, my first act if I notice a sore throat or sniffle in the offing is to have a large whiskey on ice, often seems to do the trick! If a sore throat or bunged up/runny nose is stopping me sleeping then (when not pregnant or breastfeeding) I reach for the Contac and I sleep with an Olbas Pastille in my mouth. The menthyl fumes clear my nose and soothe my throat and if you aren't actively sucking they pretty much last the night. Don't breathe on anyone the next morning though! :p

I was mortified and did you see the last episode where he was tackling the primary school and he was holding up the vegetables in class.

I was asking my Ben what all the vegetables were and he was 'iffy' on two of them
cauliflower - which in fairness I think he's had once as Owen isn't keen on it and I'm not fond of it - and the Beetroot - but had it been sliced up in a jar he'd of got it straight away but he's not seen it in his natural form before. Have to admit as well up until last year my 9 year old step son who is very much going to be a ready meal/packet mix/junk food generation didn't know what chips were made of. Ben however will not be.

Was mortified when he did that chicken experiment though and they all put there hand up - I think Jamies face said it all!

Was sat planning out Hollys weaning recipes - I didn't use any meat when I weaned Ben and am very much suffering for it now as he'll only eat sausages, turkey ham, possibly a mouthful of chicken, and fish fingers. so was sat planning her meals etc and hes asked to help so will be getting him more involved in that.

Got to admit though I want to start experimenting with different cuts of cheaper meat. Have never made a stew before so that's my new goal fro the week with the diced beef in the freezer - will see how it goes so all recipes for a stew novice greatly appreciated!

Also we aren't really pork/lamb lovers so is there such thing as a cheap cut of beef?

Absolutely yes:). Do not buy your beef already diced, its so much more expensive. I have just this minute cut up some stewing beef, its the cheapest you can buy. Beef braising steak £2.98 a kilo (that was on special offer) normally its another £1 per kilo I think? You can buy 2 different grades in Morrisons but I always buy the cheapest. I have it boiling with an onion and I'm going to use it to make a pie. Great for stews though and a curry

Your post about JO reminded me of two assemblies at school - both times when the local minister had gone in. First was DD1 who was asked what her favourite food was and said cauliflower (I know!) which rather scuppered the poor man's talk about needing fruit and veg as well as chips etc (metaphor for something or other) and the second time was when he held up a picture of a sheep and asked DS and DD2's class who were quite young at the time, "Who knows what this is?" Only to be told by one small boy, "It's a texel cross"!
