Mmm I love French Toast, you've put me in the mood. Soup was leek and potato soup but I think a side order of French Toast may be in order now. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Hi, I haven't posted for a while but just popped on to say that approvedfood.co.uk have lots of organic baby food on offer at the moment. I know p&p is high but if you can share with someone or if you save enough, it might be worth having a look. I know there are a couple of people on here with young babies.
Sorry if it's been posted before - I haven't had time to check.

It makes me so sad and angry to hear of kids who aren't cared for.
It is not always that kids are not cared for. People are becoming poorer and it is like the seventies all over again. Women are being forced out to work if they are on their own with no back up unless they have family close by. Things like this will get more common. It will be even worse because people do not have the skills needed to cope, such as cooking from scratch, budgeting, making do and mending. All of these things used to be taught in domestic science classes but kids barely have cooking at school now and I am not talking about fairy cakes but real, good, nutritious, cheap foods.
On another note, my daughter had an incident with her middle child about breakfast club when they moved to a new area.
She was called to school and was met in the classroom by the teacher and the assistant who said they were very concerned because C. had come to school saying he had had no breakfast so they gave him some and could they help in any way?
My daughter was mortified because he had breakfast before school!
They quickley realised he had lied so worked out he liked the breakfast but it was the social aspect he liked best and he did not want to miss out so my daughter agreed to send him to breakfast club.0 -

ooops: wasn't ignoring everyone and the child care/neglect stories just missed that there'd been another whole page of posts
my friend works as one of those support people in a secondary school, often times picking up the children to take them to school when they've particularly given up fending for themselves or think no-one cares! - she says she sometimes has to visit children as young as 8, still in primary as a precursor to getting to know them and to show them there will be support available to them through the years.. so sad!
I once reported a suspected "abuse" case, the Dad was a friend/acquaintance of ours and came into our shop quite often with his DD, his was a tale of woe and I suspected that his partner (problems of her own I think?) was abusing the child though he never said as much just said the child was accident prone.. broke my heart it did, didn't know whether to be an interfering busybody or not however I did eventually report it and it was all handled anonymously, he never knew, well maybe he did but not the "whom" - and I don't know what actually happened, if anything - but a couple years later he was separated and has custody of the child - I suspect there was more to it than one phone call but sometimes I think that these reports or concerns are better if they come from multiple sources especially if the mother (the one who usually always wins!) is the offending party. I did feel sorry for her but she would have every opportunity to help herself I'm sure.
We have always explained to DS that his classmates that are from single parent families - now the majority! - are not necessarily any worse off than supposed "happy families" it's the love and openness that enriches our lives and it doesn't matter if there's one adult in the household or 2 or 3 - we had to have the discussion as family members went through "split ups" and explain that his cousins were probably happier now.. I have to laugh though when he tells us to stop arguing (for the record we're 21 years married and only about 3 "proper" arguments..) and have often told him he wouldn't know what arguing/fighting parents were like if they jumped up and bit him in the b*m.. I come from a family where we as kids frequently had to take refuge in our rooms or be out of the house to avoid the fallout
IMHO It's not good to hide the children from all tensions/arguments in a family as this is the reality especially when times are tough, but an explanation of the why hopefully shouldn't go amiss either, they will need to cope with their own realities either I'm sure it won't be all Roses and Chocolate in the future either :rotfl:..

Having worked with kids and families from tough backgrounds I have stories that still make me weep years later, I used to visit kids that attended a group I ran, every week just to keep in touch and be around if they needed to talk, some of the things I saw were so awful I cannot bear remembering them. How society has got it so wrong I despair.
Its raining here again today, and I have youngest off school with chest infection and a variety of other infections too!! So nothing happening here today, she just wants me to sit with her and gets all fussy when I leave the room. Had been planning a roast to use the birthday present from my parents yesterday (carving dish and knives) but no chance I can escape the living room long enough so gonna have to be something quick I can throw together when older kids get home and can sit with madam for me.0 -
