We eloped when I was 16, he was 19. Had a coke & plate of chips in the local bikers cafe - the owner gave us it free as a wedding present LOL!0

Wondered if you were still around Sammy...
Ohforgoodnesssake to Owen's father making that "kind" offer - you've got less of a temper than I have that you didnt "fly at" Owen for accepting it - I certainly would have done so.....
Do take care pet...
What's quite bizarre is Owens dad had to talk him in to taking it!
Owen doesn't want to be in debt to his family so hes struggling with the idea.
Not bloody amused either - came home to find a letter from the council abotu seeking possession of our flat.
Let me explain - Owen is paid 24th of each month, Im paid the week after that so the rent is paid the Wednesday following that pay day so rent arrears are brought up to date that day but we struggle so can never seem to get ahead with anything. Each month we get the same letter despite us telling the housing office of our circumstances and she can see that its regularly paid.
This letter says I owe £172 rent and £28.11 water which will be paid Wednesday coming in full.:mad::mad::mad::mad: now I'm sorry but some people owe £500+ or have never paid a months rent in their lives and yet Im harassed for £172 rent and £28 water!!!!
think if i have a few quid extra this month then ill bung it on rent or water to shut them up

I had a totally O/S wedding 30 years ago, everything was made borrowed or done without and it was fab. Although my Dad did offer me 20 quid to run away - Dh's family were like the Steptoes :rotfl:seriously- but he turned out ok:rotfl:
Mardatha what a fab way to get hitched and so like you!
I finally had to cave in and go shopping last night but did ok, a few bargains but my how the prices have risen in ten days since I last went . When I checked my receipt we had spent 4.50 on fruit, as happy as I am that DH is eating lots of fruit I need to go to the market next week and stock up instead of Mr T. I read the 1p stuff at Mr T thread yesterday and I think another MSE'er had been in cos there was a pack of After 8 mints abandoned next to the price checker - Sherlock Holmes of bargains guys! Maybe you can write to them with a payment plan of a few quid a month to clear the arrears. It might stop the harrasment.
Don't offer too much though as it don't go down too well if you don't pay what you promised.
Thinking about the car on the credit card, that is one expensive way to pay for it. The interest is so high and if he is unable to pay it for some reason it may sour the relationship between him and his dad.
Bit too much at risk all round there maybe?
Take care.

The arrears is the last month of rent and water but we always pay it afterwards does that make sense??? so we've had 3 weeks so need to pay for those and the forth now if that makes sense. might try and get us a month a head of ourselves cos im fed up of all these bleeding letters.
stupid thing is council tax is up to date and a friend of mine owes nearly 900 in water rates and shes not sent letters. maybe its because they know im stupid enough to worry.Time to find me again0 -
Have just come back from town, loads of charity sales on. So have bought, 2 dinner plates and stainless steel bowl for cooking £1. 1duvet cover, a couple of meters of fabric and a blue duffle coat £2.50, Bag of bones 1/2 mince 3 chiken fillet thighs and carrots (all for cats lol) £2.50. Could of got mors but could'nt carry it. Not a bad little spending spree and not to mention happy cats.
Re weddings - Mine was quite and cost under £3,000 with lots of things given as gifts, ie, cake, cars, disco friend did flower arrangements etc for cost. Sit down meal for about 40 then 100 for evening do. Would never have dreamed of asking anyone to pay for there meal....
The other weddng that was absolutely wonderful and really sticks in my mind was my friends, they had lived together for years and got married as they found out it protected ther daughter more in law should one of them die. They had a registry do, wedding dress was 2nd hand and looked stunning, daughter wore a bridesmaid dress that was my daughters, looked fab, cars done by step fIL, do in local british legion, food buffet style done by a friend as a gift both day and evening. Absolutely fab day, no one there looking down there nose at anyone, no great debt incurred, everyone had a great time. Now that's what a wedding is about a celebration of your union, not buying into some ad mans fantasy. The problem with common sense is its not very common:rotfl:

My rent is like this, but the housing officer never hassles me cos she knows I pay at the start of each month without fail.
Write to them and explain or try and get a week or 2 ahead.0 -
Sammy - have you applied for housing benefit since the rules changed last november? OH works full time and we get £119 housing benefit to use against our rent (private landlord £415 per month). We also got council tax benefit at the same time which works out around £15 per month.
Cant believe they are chasing you for such a small amount, I've heard of people who havent paid rent for monthsMum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
