  • Morning everyone. Lovely and sunny here today but we are cold too. The heating went on last night for a couple of hours and again this morning. I just don't see the point of making ourselves ill because the house has been feeling damp - even with the sunshine the last couple of days. I find it only takes a couple of hours a day this time of year to keep the really cold feeling away.

Right, I need to get moving. Loads of running about to do, a couple loads of washing and the groceries to get before we're off to a music festival thing this afternoon.

    Have a good Sunday all.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • We,ve had the heating on for an hour. The only problem with putting the heating on is that we have to check the meter (its card one), havent topped up for a while, but checked this morning and it needs doing.

Went the car boot at 8am and it was a cold walk there! Got the boys some books and jigsaws so they are pleased. There were lots of sellers there, lots buying toys and things for christmas, if I was looking for action man, i could have bought the whole range very very cheaply as this seemed to be the maiin theme today!
    Mum, wife and dinnerlady!
  • The heating is on. I will have to top up the card meter today :(

This is the thing with not using the heating - you get a damp house and you get ill. Dont risk it - cut down on the tumble dryer and use things like crockpots etc - but you must keep the house free of damp or people will start getting ill. Things like bronchitis and pneumonia can be hard to clear up.

    Your advice is good mardatha.

I read somewhere that older people are more at risk of strokes when the body temperature gets too low so it's vital to stay as warm as possible and if that means cutting back on something else and using the heating then it's better to do it than suffer harm.

    Morning all!

It's a little chilly here today, too. Was ok yesterday until I went to bed - just meant I snuggled under the duvet all night. 1st October is my aim date for the heating and it's SO close that I refuse to be beaten!! ;) I do have thick socks on today, though - and am considering a vest top under my jumper... DS1 (10) has gone out to play in shorts and tshirt.....

One lot of washing is on the line, with another in the machine. Should just about dry today. Weather is meant to be cold and damp for a few days this week, I think :(

Am cooking 2 dinners today. Have a small whoopsied joint of beef that I'm cooking for DH & DD. Myself, DS1 & DS3 are having cottage pie (bulked with swede, carrot, onion only - it's something that I refuse to bulk with lentils/ oats). DS2 doesn't eat meat. There will be enough left of both for more meals - so the oven is being used to full capacity. Accompanied by an aldi cabbage (49p?), and carrots and runner beans from the garden. May be able to find a few last potatoes too if I'm lucky (although will be doing roaies anyway) Followed by a (tinned) peach flan & cream - yummy! May also make a mince base for lasagne and bolognaise whilst I'm in mince mode - and maybe even chilli - will see how much mince is in the freezer. Will definitely make another double batch of courgette & tomato soup, though - just the weather for soup at lunchtime! :D

Off to Sainsburys in a mo. Need Sunday paper, apple juice and bread. Could also do with more socks for me - have thrown away a few pairs last Winter and not replaced - so only have about 5 - not enough for cold, wet weather!!

    BAck later x

I must research this, my Dad is terrible, hates putting the heating on too much! I have low BP so I feel the cold really badly. I do think however that layer are great especially wearing a vest tucked in.:rotfl:
Its gorgeous up her in the North, like others, the washing is just going out

Morning, my CH had clicked on this morning, was very cold according to hubby at 4.30am when he went to work.

I have started lighting wood burning stove in an evening, but have been letting it burn out, going to have to start filling it with logs before bed so it stays in all night not having CH on when there are free logs to burn:).

How do you manage that with just logs please? I have never managed it with anything other than some kind of coal.
  • :) Pretty chilly here - lit the fire last night - but only used one shovel of coal & burnt lots of rubbish too ...I put my washing on an airer overnight in the same room and clothes were almost dry this morning :)

I'm a [STRIKE]yummy[/STRIKE] scummy mummy cos I've got a [STRIKE]£50[/STRIKE] £5 limit for all relatives and friends this Christmas  . . . tbh I feel quite confident that I can put together some nice, well stocked, hm gift baskets for a fiver. Hoping that with this months pay I can pay off my vet bill, credit cards and buy the majority of my Christmas presents - this will free up the surplus of my last months pay to be squirrelled away in case I don't get other work.

Got to haul my rear end of the sofa now and go attack the housework :)
