Kathlicos - this is a recipe for a yummy flapjack type cake done in the microwave - it is one of my DHs favourites. I got the recipe from this site several years ago - couldn't find it now so I'll rewrite the recipe for you. I warn you its very moreish!:D

    Jam Crumblie

    6oz butter/marg
    6oz dark soft brown sugar
    6oz porridge oats
    7oz plain flour
    pinch of salt
    half a teaspoon bakin powder
    4oz jam

lightly grease an 8" square baking dish(I use my ceramic "lasagne" dish as its microwave safe)
cream the fat and sugar together.
stir in dry ingredients and mix thoroughly
press half the mixture into the baking dish
metl the jam in the microwave for about 30 seconds and then spread it over the base,
Crumble on the remaining oat mixture, pressing it down lightly
bake in the microwave for 7 mins(full power)
cut into squares and cool in the baking dish!

the original poster of this recipe(I think it was Queenie) also did a Christmas version and put mincemeat in instead of jam and dusted it with icing sugar.

Might have to make some now you've reminded me of this recipe:D

Taplady, we are just eating this at the minute and it absolutely GORGEOUS!

I used some foraged blackberry and apple jam that i had made, for the filling.

  • Flowertotmum - that's awful - you just have to tell yourself they weren't proper friends if they can do that? What happened with your baking? (if you can talk abouit it) - can they even cook? My Mum and Dad always said they found out who their true friends were when my Dad got made redundant (from being a director - very nice lifestyle etc)

I'll tell you ...my little girl is poorly so i couldn't go to mother and toddler this morning but it was my turn to buy the cake for coffee afterwards..i made a carrot cake and my son dropped it off on his way to college...it was returned an hour later with a note on it saying "SORRY WE DON'T DO HOMEMADE".. i mean what does that mean..is it not good enough coz its gone my family ate it and said it was lovely...its probably their snotty way off letting me know they don't want me to go anymore..fluffing b****es...i am so glad my other daughter doesn't go to school with their children...i sound awful don't i?..but i would never turn my back on anyone having a hard time especially a friend but this is what they have done to me and i am so hurt...i want to cry..but i won't..not much..we are struggling to get by and i hoped my friends would understand but obviously they don't...so they can fluffing well fluff off...
Sorry i never swear but they have made me so angry...it might sound petty but i have never felt this way before..i'm caught between anger and hurt..my husband is fuming and my son wanted to go say something..but i won't let him...well its their loss..fluff them all...i'll stick to you lot ...you have all made me feel welcome and not judgemental at all...
thank you for letting me get it out..

Is this an official playgroup - cos I have heard some strange stories of schools etc not taking HM for "health & safety"? However the way it was returned was appallingly rude and you are quite right to be raging - don't feel guilty about it at all!!! You are better than these people. (and make fantastic cake!)

ETS: Could you send a note back saying "Sorry - I don't waste my money on artificial carp" - probably not but boy, I'd be tempted!

  • flowertotmum - their behaviour is absolutely outrageous!! You are so much better off without such snotty narrow minded people. I am shocked that in these sort of hard times, there are people like that still. I mean what kind of values are they instilling to their own kids?

Tell you what, bring the cake over here (LOVE carrot cakes, and as far as I'm concerned, only a carrot cake will do!) and we'll have a nice cuppa :)

Edit: I just told my OH about your cake, and we're now sitting here both enraged at how ridiculous these people are!

I absolutely hate and dread having to go to the bank for a "review" (although we are lucky to have a really helpful local RBS branch and manager) but I always tell myself that I can hold my head up as we are very good customers - they are making (pots of) money out of our overdraft in interest and fees - they're not giving it to us for nothing!

Posted without realising there was another whole page - sorry. Flowertotmum, no wonder you are feeling hurt and angry. If it was genuine health and safety reasons, they could have explained more kindly, if not, well, fluff off is right, snobbery and rudeness hardly cover it. With friends like that, who needs enemies. I would rather have a homemade cake rather than a shopbought one any day and so would lots of others, I'm sure. Their loss!

They are not fit to lick the dirty of your shoes. Karma will come and bite them on the bum real soon. No one is going to come out of this unscaved.

(Personally, I would go to there next little soiree - make sure you make the tea and spit in it;))

Oh, it is true though, your mates who are sticking with you now REALLY are your mates, This set of B..... are just fair weather. They will need you long before you will need them.
