:j:jGood news, Vet just rang, kittie responded well to treatment, he's been xrayed, just fractured jaw, now repaired and I can pick him up after 5.30:j:j:j (just the vet bill next:eek:)

RE. Friend - Friend's husband would willingly go and have the snip, but they won't do it because he's to young (she's 8 yrs older than him)

Tell him about that Marie Stopes website - think its around £600-£800 to men??? To deal with that huge a worry its really not that much money. One of the best investments I ever made with my money personally:D. I know the NHS used to have some sort of calculation as to whether they would agree to provide a sterilisation operation of the persons age combined with the number of children they had had already - at which point I think I would have had to be about 100 to qualify (having not had any children). Certainly the calculations seemed to be down to the NHS only providing sterilisations if the person had already had rather a LOT of children unless they'd gone "past it" fertility-wise anyway. I got the message - ie "We - the NHS don't want to pay for this for anyone at all ever if we can possibly help it". I simply dont understand their thinking - as they are saving the NHS all sorts of money by doing so - but I guess its short-term thinking again....

I think they make some feeble excuse about the person "may change their mind". My own reaction to that was "Give me some darn credit for knowing my own mind for gawds sake.....its MY mind...I ought to know how I think and if I dont then its my own darn fault...".

EDIT: I've just had a check - its £365 for a man to have the basic level sterilisation at Marie Stopes (ie local rather than general anaesthetic). My Gawd - personally I think thats an absolute bargain.....so I think that would be within the financial means of most people - even factoring in petrol/fares to get to the nearest Clinic.

That sounds like a good idea RAS - the thought crossed my mind re basic bank accounts - so if you do have a list to give us all then it would be useful:D

    List here:

    http://www.moneymadeclear.org.uk/HTML/en/products/bank_accounts/basic_bank_accounts_popup.htm

Probably a good idea for anyone who has a lot of debt and has a loan or credit card with the bank that holds their current account, as they are allowed to off-set.

Also for anyone who is about to lose their job and has an oveerdraft.

Ha! I was offered a sterilisation at 241/2 just after my third child was born and my gp was most put out when I said "I might change my mind in a few years" and my hubby definately would have refused.

I found out later that there had been some kind of drive to get more women sterilised at that time. It possibly depends on where you live as to how easy it is to get it done.
  • My OH had the snip 2 years ago age 35 - it took 30mins and done under local anesthetic, in our local doctors clinic.

I still take the pill as Im scared I may fall pregnant again, there is a 2% chance that the tubes could rejoin in a blokes bits and then he can produce fertile swimmers. I get pregnant very easily, have 2 boys both born prematurely and the hospital have said there are no problems with me so there is an 80% chance that I will have another baby at around 32 weeks again as this is when my body thinks its time to give birth. Got pregnant while on pill but had a miscarriage, we dont want anymore so apart from me going into hospital to be sterilised (nurse said I may not be able to as OH has had snip)I will take the pill.

thats my family planning summed up!

cold here today, blowing a gale and rain. Refusing to put heating on and boys said they are warm so were holding off

Re banks....it always amazes me that they will return a cheque or direct debit unpaid because to pay it would make you overdrawn, and yet they can justify charging you a fee for returning the item which is sometimes more than the actual returned item? Consequently you end up overdrawn anyway because of bank charges!

When I swapped banks I stipulated I did not want an overdraft facility. I managed to get a debit card, which is almost a necessity nowadays (life is quite difficult at times without one, as my OH found) through good timing on my part - I changed banks just before any defaults registered on my credit record So now I have a bank account that is easy to manage, with all the facilities I want, and it is not possible for me to go overdrawn. I also have savings accounts for different things (usually with around a hundred quid in on average) and I can swap bits backwards and forwards on the internet to cover expenditure not in my main budget. I have just recently discovered that the post office in my village will allow me to pay in and draw cash from my bank account (they have some arrangement with my bank) at no charge, so no having to trawl into town to visit the bank if I don't want to.

I wish we could have some sort of alternative to the banks, self serving ****#s . Come on all sanctimonious and high horsed to the customers but they're all insolvent without a mega overdraft courtesy of the taxpayer! Double standards or what???
