Parboil a couple of large potatoes with the skin on, they should still be firmish inside. Peel off the skin and slice lengthways thickly. Put a slice of corned beef in between two slices of potato and dip in batter. fry gently till cooked and browned. Do this till you have as many as you need. Serve with salad or other veg.
I only popped on to check if any bargains and you all are making me hungry..it sounds delish ...my hubby will get fed up of corn beef:D..but nevermind..i cook and he eats;)..or else..Be who you are, not what the world expects you to be..:smileyhea

I like corned beef pasties as well. Corned beef, mashed potatoes, finely chopped and fried off onions (any other veg you fancy putting in it) in pastry. My grandma used to serve them with homemade (deep fried) chips as well...oh the calories! I think I'll be serving with veggies on the side instead
My car cost £113  still these things have to be done (first service) and at least I know that it's save to drive and the warranty is valid. Also the cost of service and tax on this car is a lot less than the cost of MOTs/services and tax on my old banger was! I signed up to the monthly payment service plan whilst I was there to cover the rest of the services for the length of the warranty. I means I don't have to remember to put the money aside for the service (which I always forget!) and it is cheaper than paying each year as I got my next four services at today's parts/labour prices and VAT rate so think I got a pretty good deal there. My MOT will also be half price when I need to get that done (another 2 years before that!) I don't think I'll replace my car after those 4 years, not if it's still running and not breaking down (which it really should be!) but once the warranty runs out I'll switch to getting it MOT'd and serviced at a cheaper local garage. It's just important to me to keep it in warranty as it is actually a good warranty and a lot of issues are covered under it. Also the woman did say that if I do decide to get rid of the car and don't get another of the same make I can get back any money I've over paid (if I got the same make I could transfer the service plan over) I'm happy anyway.
I started making some caramel slice/millionaires shortbread last night but started it a bit too late really so the shortbread and delicious caramel topping is currently in the fridge waiting for me to add chocolate on top tonight. I've decided to start baking things for DH's packed lunch instead of buying packets of biscuits and cereal bars...it should save a few pennies! Our oven is a bit rubbish so any baking does have to be pretty foolproof or rather able to cope with less than even and adjustable temperatures. I have always baked but he used to be a bit shy about taking home baked stuff to work (seriously, he's like a kid!) but now I've said like it or lump it and to be fair he's getting more confident and less bothered if idiots comment...and he's at a nicer workplace now where his workmates aren't immature idiots.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

annieg - does your library not have a facility for renewing your books online though your local council website? It's worth investigating if you run the risk of running up fines on overdue books. Ours has just introduced a new facility which will send you an automated e-mail reminder shortly before your books are due but I haven't investigated that one yet as I always put a note in my diary when they're due.0

Well not amused. Absolutely bloody drenched - put jeans in the drier for 40 minutes and they've come out wtter than they went in and I only have literally 3 sets of trousers, one pair are on the line (so bloody dripping as I didnt catch them before the downpour began,) my jeans which are in drier and my leggings are covered in paint. All my otehr sloggy bottom trousers I gave away as I out grew them all when I was pregnant and didnt think Id fit in them any time soon. So am sat in PJ bottoms at the minute (in case you were wondering!) and hopign Jeans dry before the school run!
Check up yesterday was pointless - need to rebook to see my original doctor as one i saw didn't examine me at all in any way shape or form, and said he was putting me back on the pill because i didn't do well with the injection and knew nothing about the implant. I was on the pill both times I got pregnant! He didn't take my blood pressure, didn't check my stomach/ weight /height etc and when I mentioned being uncomfortable 'downstairs' as if something hasn't aligned properly he said 'well baby is still young your still healing'.......holly is 9 weeks old tomorrow so it should be near enough healed not feeling like its grinding when i move in a certain way!
Have had health visitor and her trainee out today and she said flat is looking good - it had a mould smell last time and she was happy with it today. Did mention to her trainee that our first few visits werent happy rosey ones and my boyfriend had been gunnign for her since. Thankfully he wasnt home and its the last at hoem visit we need.I get so stressed when she comes because she is a horrid piece of work. Baby has a sore bit under her chin though from dribbling so needs to be seen by GP tomorrow when she's in to be checked and have her jabs - anyone fancy going in for me?? and then I have my tooth out on Thursday - dreading it!
Gutted as well as I'm paid Thursday and really wanted to get a Tesco shop done as our cupboards are that bare even the dog is looking worried. But because my dentist is 10.30am I will probably be out of action for the rest of the day. I do have my mummy up to look after Holly though in case I have a rough time with it. Fingers crossed that my pain thresh hold is higher than I think though as I hate taking pills so even thinking pain killers is worrying me a bit. Although I took paracetamol no problem when I was in hospital having holly so fingers crossed Ill be ok. Plus had iron tablets too.
D&DD - oh what breed is your new baby to be?Time to find me again0 -
Gailey, if your husband is job hunting it's worth his while registering with a few recruitment agencies. I used to work in recruitment and if it's busy and there are a lot of candidates looking for work he might not get called about a job that is suitable for him. If he registers with a few and trys to get to know one of the consultants at each it might help. The online sites are great as they will email you details of the type of job you are looking for.
Glad you had a good break, we wet to Cornwall and the pay and display charges were expensive too. Hope your sickness eases soon.0 -
Also glad to hear you had a well deserved nice break Gailey :j
Cars do take a lot of anyone's money. My car failed it's MOT in April, on the simplest of things.....the ABS/Handbrake/Air Bag lights on the dash, wont go off. It passed on everything else and they can find no fault with the ABS/Handbrake/Air Bag. They (the garage) felt pretty sure that if they "tried this and tried that" (to the tune of £350) they could sort it......well, they tried, and they couldn't, and we didn't have £350 floating around, so it had to go on OH's cc. So we are now left paying back £350 to the cc company, but have no car and no means to get another........and all because the lights wont go off on the dash :mad:Nargleblast wrote: »Re spag bol recipe - when frying the onions and garlic I add a slice of finely chopped bacon, smoked if possible. A dash of red wine is excellent in the sauce, as is a little sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. I cook it slowly for an hour or two, then take the lid off and let it reduce and thicken. As it does so, I check for taste, adding extra salt/pepper/sugar/basil if needed. A lump of butter stirred in at the end finishes it off nicely.Morning!
DS had corned beef pie at school once for lunch. He wasn't impressed... said it looked like Bagpuss!!!
Thanks for the alternative Corned Beef Recipes, Primrose, Lambanana and Grandma247
I do a Corned Beef & Potato Pie for me and OH using a 200g tin. I chill first in the fridge, and then slice into 5 pieces and cube each slice into 12. Fry off a diced onion, add 350ml of beef stock and reduce by ½, then add ½ a tin of Baked Beans and 2 heaped dessert spoons of chunky Bran$ton Pickle to it. Heat through for 5-10mins (making sure the corned beef remains cubed rather than mash in) then pour into a dish, top it with sliced par boiled potatoes, seasoned, and sprinkle a mixture of breadcrumbs and grated cheese mixed together on the top (I always keep a tub of pre made breadcrumbs and a tub of grated cheese in the freezer) Cook for 30 mins @ 200c - it's yumAug11 £193.29/£240
