See I like fat. I hate dry food. :)

I also like the fat:o Crisp pork crackling, crisp fat on steak or lamb, chicken or duck. Sad woman that I am. It will probably end up killing me, but my taste buds will die happy.

Annie56, I am not far off your age. I ended up with nothing whilst the ex OH sat on all my cash with a new and very much older bird!!! I wouldnt mind if she had even been attractive but hey...anyway, what I am trying to say is that sometimes it can be better to walk with a bit rather than fight for the lot. My mental health was worth far more and now, 5 years later I have my own place, new career and a new bloke. Financially, I am broke, but, most of the time I wouldnt swap a thing (until I see that pair of shoes I would like!!)

When life deals you lemons just ask for the Tequila and salt.

On another note, I cook my casseroles on top of the wood burner as it kills two birds with one stone.

Annie56 - You amaze me! Love it that you took the accounts :D Brilliant :D
Re this floozie..... she will get whats coming and so will he in time ;)

Personally - I'm just laughing here thinking "I know another pragmatist when I see them" about Annie. YOu and me both gal....:D

I would have had no qualms about taking whatever financial information I needed to "get a full picture". On the other hand - I would be working out in my own mind what it was fair to expect financially - and wouldnt be going for his pension just because I could. I would work out exactly what my financial input had been and take exactly that - I personally don't see the point of using money to "punish" someone or using laws to help myself to someone else's money just because I can. I would HATE it if I felt someone else had walked off with some of MY money - BUT, on the other hand, if you just take whats actually yours and don't use the law to chase after more just because you can - then you can get on with your life faster and with a good conscience.

I guess personally I just like to be able to tell myself "I've done what I know is right - so I can now move on and forget about it and don't feel bad about myself/guilty. I worked out EXACTLY whats fair - and whether I got it or no - I did the best I could. I used the law to get everything that was rightfully mine. I did NOT use the law to help myself to someone else's property - just because I could."

Thats me - and I know a lot of other people think differently on that issue. Being such a pragmatist means I like to put issues behind me as soon as I reasonably can - and get on with the rest of my life - knowing I've done the best I can on the one hand and my conscience is resting at least reasonably easily on the other hand.

But I DO know that everyone works out the balance on this for themselves...I am just grinning here because I suspect Annie is pretty likeminded on this...:D

    Anyways...take care gal..

    Hi Ceridwen.

Too damn right Im getting my share, and thats all I will say on the subject from now on, Ive kinda hijacked this lovley forum the last few days, thank you all for the lovley and helpful support youve given me, now thats exOH and floozie dealt with what were talking about ooh yes mince and shepherds pie, yum.

I have to get all the fat out of the mince first, I couldnt eat it otherwise, once I drained the fat down the sink at the students house I lived in with 5 other pals, well guess what it solidified:D:eek::p and blocked the pipe and Ive always thought yeuck that could have been inside me so from then on the fats always been disposed of safely and I have a wee phobia about other folks mince dishes...

I used to love my grannys mince and tatties and mashed turnip (Im from Scotland originally)she used to look after us after school and her suet dumplings yum...must go get some Atora Suet feel a dumpling session coming on.

Ive finally unpacked all my junk ehmm posessions and now can see what room I have in my kitchen cupboards and have plenty of empty shelves so its store cupboard fill up time, just need to plan carefully now, getting there slowly.

Once again I want to thank you all for your support and advice its been a godsend and I am most grateful I found this site, its blinkin wonderful innit???:T:T:D:D:p:rotfl::rotfl:

Going to have a cuppa hot choclate and a digestive mmmmmmmmm heaven, and keep an eye out for the next few posts

  • Ah Hippeechiq I forget other people aren't of the "throw it all in a pan and see what happens" school of cooking! Sorry about that. I don't have a recipe I'm afraid, I only ever use them for baking and with other cooking see them more as a "you could do this" than instructions I have to follow. My husband understands this leads to some rather odd combinations!

As for fat on meat...well I do like it and agree there should be a little bit but I do drain it off if there's loads when I fry up mince because I don't think that's lovely and tasty fat like pork crackling, not if I'm cooking the mince into a sauce, I find it makes the sauce a little greasy. To be fair though I've not had much fat on any of the mince I've bought lately and it's all been lovely.

I stocked up on corned beef earlier for corned beef hash and pasties, got 6 tins for £5.99 in costco so pretty pleased with that as it's John West as well and currently Asda smartprice is £1.19 per tin! Also Netto are selling the same brand from Thursday (or possibly Monday, I forget which leaflet it was on!) for £1 a tin for anyone without a costco card who has a fondness for corned beef!

Thanks for the corned beef tip at Costco, I'm just catching up on the thread, but that has reminded me that I want to go to Costco and that's another thing to add to the list.

So far as the mince/fat is concerned, I usually drain off the fat but sometimes if I cant be bothered I leave it and fry onions in it. I can't say that I have ever noticed a difference in the taste. Just don't like the thought of all those extra calories.
